ID REQUEST: PNW Ps. Cyanescens? * 1
    #27063555 - 11/29/20 06:46 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Hey all, SWIM found a great big patch of what appear to be psilocybe cyanescens.  Any help would be much appreciated.  This is SWIM’s first season in the PNW so he is very hesitant and trying to be cautious about LBMs.  Thank you for sharing your insights!

Species # 1 of 1-2? I think pic #2 are the same but older/dryer.

Habitat: mixed deciduous trees next to blackberry bramble and grass, growing in an empty lot.  Found in the area where the grass and bramble met.

Gills: light brown/tan

Stem: white with blue to black bruising.  Some appear more black, particularly the dryer and more mature ones.  Stipes are smooth.  The stipes kind of break apart like string cheese.

Cap: caramel, umbonate, has a pellicle.  Spider web like veil on pins with none on adults.  Margin is lightly striated on most.  Wavy on adult mushrooms but smooth on pins and lightly wavy to smooth for young (like nickel to quarter sized).

Spore print: purple

Bruising: blue on some with others much more towards black.

General location: south puget sound area in washington state

Gills:tan to brown to black — lighter towards tan for smaller specimens, darker with patches of black ish on fully grown.

Stem: white with blue to black bruising. Some had stems with white outsides and a sort of dark brown inside—I left these behind because I wasn’t convinced.  Some appear more black, particularly the dryer and more mature ones.  Stipes are smooth.  The stipes kind of break apart like string cheese.  They seems fairly fibrous in nature.

Welcome to the forum,

from what I can see, they are Psilocybe cyanescens, but your pictures are really really small for proper ID (for future references)

Thank you!  Apologies for the small pictures.  I will try to figure out the best way to upload.  Only the “medium” size stays under 200kb currently.
