Please don't lump all Americans into one group that "bash the shit out of France." I live in USA and would love to visit France and hold no bad feelings with them. I'm yet to cross the Atlantic ocean. One day!

Well, burgers are awesome. Surely I love some things the French are stereotypically into though too. Cheese, old Citroens and stinky armpits come to mind .

Can you speak French?
There are places in Canada where housing is a lot cheaper than the Toronto and Vancouver areas. But yeah none with any milder winters than Vancouver.
You can get a decent condo in places for like 300k usd. I was looking at condos in Calgary that are like 350k CDN that are comparable and aren't anywhere as close to the beach. I took french in highschool. I could probably remember a little after a while.

Ahab, you are familiar with how smug French people can be, right?
I have not been there, but any story or personal interaction with French people(meaning actual French on vacation here) has been nothing but condescending, smug bullshit. Almost as if you pumped Alex Jones with more smugness, a good understanding of English and coherent speech.
Ugh, I hate smug people. Especially when they think they know 10,000% more than you just because they heard your accent. Makes me want to smack-a-bitch.

Are you familiar with how smug French people can be? You've literally never been there. One of the reasons is people in France "won't" speak English but I don't understand why French people get such a knock for not speaking English by American and English tourists when those same people would go to their southern neighbor in Spain and never question them for not speaking English.
The French being pretentious or smug is just a stupid stereotype that I find hilarious coming from people, particularly Americans, that have never even been there.

I think it just comes from the intonation of their language, like - it sort of innately has this smooth flow, that gives you that almost like slick vibe that someone could construe as "These people must think they're better than me, talking all fancy like that!"

A lot can be misconstrued when you can't understand wtf someone is saying Aside from looking different - it's probably the most common step any human - or creature in general makes in the direction of xenophobia

Oh for sure. You can speak the same language as someone else and you will immediately be judged based on your accent regardless of your message.

Apparently the French discriminate against there own as well. France may ban discrimination against accents
In the vid below, the guy on the left is from Northern France, the new French Prime Minister, on the right here speaks with a southern accent, apparently.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/03/edouard-philippe-resigns-prime-minister-of-france
Be interested to know what they sound like to a Canadian ear?
At ~48 the guy on the left is thinking "not a heavy and difficult as your ferkin accent, ya country bumpkin".

Fuck you bastards. I said "can" be, not "are".
My wife has been to France and says the same thing. Does that somehow change your mind? Of course not.
