Agar plate water build up?

So I have about 20 plates or so that are fully colonized, holding them for storage long term. My fridge is a little shitty college dorm room mini fridge, I know the temps probably fluctuate, but im working on getting a better fridge to use for storage. There was a little condensation from prep/transfers. And I’ll work on my tek there, however, once the plates were fully colonized I added them to a lunchbox and put it In the fridge, I have about 20-50cc of water in my Petri dishes. I drained one or two and re wrapped them, but I’m starting to think that’s a unnecessary contam risk. What can I do to prevent water building up and how do I combatant it? Just drain it in a SAB?

I had the exact same thing just happen with a new smaller dorm fridge as well. Ive never experienced this myself. I put them all to LC and will test for contams next week.

Apparently if you put them in a sandwich box or something to insulate them, the plates won't get huge temperature swings which causes the condensation.

I have them in a lunch box, so maybe drain and then put 2-4 in a ziplock and then in a lunchbox for more insulation.

If you open them you’re just exposing them to contain, I’ve let mine sit out of the fridge for over a week & they normally clear up pretty well

Yeah they have had water build up for 1-3 months in some of the dishes, I’m just curious if it’ll damage the mycelium.

What do you mean by "long term storage"? You can keep plates at room temp on a dim shelf for months on end and they stay good if they stay sealed. Shit I've picked up plates over a year old and tossed a wedge on a new plate and watched it grow just fine. Might see an extra day or two before it leaps off if it's really tired but that no big deal.
Just set healthy plates on a clean shelf in a clean place at room temp. You might have to make a new plate every few months.
