First time grow , things not looking right.
    #27061344 - 11/28/20 09:40 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Hey everyone ! This is my first post and first grow and was very excited but now Im not sure if they are even safe to pick and eat. I followed alot of threads in here and on youtube and I did the following :

LC culture Blue meanie in horse oats stertilized in pressure cooker .
colinization took 2 weeks. no mold or anything , grain spawn looked good. see pics of progress:

https://ibb.co/QPT7KNz
https://ibb.co/z67P0gT
https://ibb.co/6g6RdrD
https://ibb.co/xgBb1CT

Monotub with FAE holes covered with micro pore tape setup with coconut coir sub strate. misted everyday once I saw mycelium growing.

I didnt have a fan but lifted the lid everyday when I was misting .

This is the result .. very thin sad looking mushrooms, falling over,  some look discoulored and almost shrivelled.

https://ibb.co/MffmxRF
https://ibb.co/Jz6TTtn
https://ibb.co/4ffCYLB
https://ibb.co/SxNmkFS

The dude who sold me the LC is a highly respected guy and I asked him if they looked normal and he just said " they look like blue meanies"

But I dont think these look right lol .

Any help or advice is apreciated im pretty bumbed , it took all this time and now I dont know if its garbage or not.

I have some P.E going in another tub and theyre taking longer and not sure whats going to happen with them.

Cheers

You substrate looks very dry, did you check that the coir was at field capacity before mixing?

What tek are you following for the tub?  Typically there are holes near the substrate to allow CO2 to be removed from the tub...

the holes are 3 inches above where the substrate is. do you think there is a lack of FAE?  should I put a fan on it all day? also been misting ths sides of the tub twice a day.

I'd also say it looks like an FAE issue. Try removing the micropore and fanning when you mist. It's a balancing act in the end until you get your tub set for your environment.

Also, there's no point in misting the walls, just don't go ham spraying the surface.

Almost reminds me of what fruiting cubes in absolute darkness looks like...but I'm sure not following a trusted Monotub TEK is the culprit.

Before you start...Do you have a Pressure Cooker and a Dehydrator? I highly recommend getting both!

Yes, you should be misting to make sure the sub doesn't dry out. You *only* want to be misting the substrate directly. Don't think of it as watering the mushrooms; you're just keeping it from drying out.

You don't directly mist the substrate - you should be misting above it and letting the mist fall on the substrate.  If you mist directly at the substrate it will often damage the surface mycelium.  It looks a little dry in the pics, but don't try to make up for it all at once.

I think that tub is causing stagnant air to pool up in the bottom which is why they are elongated and spindly - the mushrooms are searching for fresh air to grow in.

well I could drill a bunch of small holes now. but I risk getting plastic shards all over the mecelium. so I might just have to do as many flushes as I can with the way it is now and make changes for the next attempt.  Thanks for your help so far !  do you think its safe to consume the last ones I grew?

Totally safe to consume. Just fan some when you mist. All will be well.

Those are fine to eat.

I would just give the tub extra FAE manually until the tub runs it's course then re-evaluate things.  That'll give you time to look at the various tub teks and see which one is best for you.

Almost.looks.like panaleous cyanascens,

I wouldn't think its a fresh air issue as the mushroo.s aren't misproportioned, the caps look the right size for the mushrooms.

When is low o2 the caps are like pinhead small.and the mushrooms get very long

Those look like they are intended to be that size.

I'd say eat a dry gram and see how hard it hits you, if its strong,  then is pan cyan, if you jist kinda feel it, maybe its  a do.esticated blue meanie or maybe a Texas offshoot.

Nah...those are definitely cubes just in really poor fruiting conditions....Pans don't have little black skirts.
