Do I have this process right?
    #27060431 - 11/27/20 03:38 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

so after a break, im going to attempt to grow cubensis again soon. Im gonna briefly go over the steps and make sure i have it all right:

-mix agar+water, pc at 15psi for 30 mins, allow to cool
-sterilize gloves, place agar in SAB, pour all petri plates, allow to solidify. shoot spores onto an agar plate.
-once myc grows, separate a piece, transfer a couple times make sure myc fully clean

-put 20 cups of grain into a pot (for 2 tubs), fill with hot water, let soak for 12 hours. boil for a few mins, strain out, let sit to dry for an hour
-put grain in jars, use filtered lids, add tin foil, pc @ 15psi for 90 mins.
-wipe down jars with alcohol, put in SAB, add agar wedge w/ myc into grain jars, put jars in a special place for a while. shake jars at about half colonization?
-once fully colonized, smell jars, pour all grain jars into a pot, break up if necessary, fill pot w/ cold water, let sit for 20 minutes. strain out the water.
-add a brick of coir, 2 qts of verm into a bucket, pour 4 quarts of boiling water on it, stir, put on lid, let sit for 12 hours.

-put painters plastic in tubs, pour substrate in, even out, pour grain in, mix.
-once the surface seems fully colonized, put polyfil or something into the holes. put a fan on near the tubs. have some light.
-once they fruit and the caps begin to flatten, pick them, dry them. repeat when next flushes come.

So do I have this process right over all? sorry that this isa lot but I just want to make sure that I have everything right, want to see if anyone has any tips, etc?

I wouldn't soak all your grains in one pot. if there is one jar with a hidden contamination, you just fucked up all your grains. soak in the jar if you really must.

take some prints as well.

One pot is fine they’re getting sterilized anyway.

Sounds overall like the right check list. Don’t forget to add nutrients to the agar.

mixing substrate and spawn together in a bag then placing in tub is far easier and way less messy.

I believe Haywire was talking about the part where OP was saying he would soak his colonized grains (which you shouldn't need to do if you simply hydrate them properly before PCing) all in one pot to soak up some more moisture before spawning, not the soak pre PC.

Haywire would be right then that OP wouldn't want to soak them all in one pot if the jars are being spawned individually to shoeboxes. Why risk a bad jar taking down the others?

However, if OP is spawning to a mono then this is no issue as you just soak the 5 jars you will be spawning to a single substrate all together since that is where they will end up anyways. I experimented with this suggestion of soaking colonized grains because of Frank Horrigan's tek back in the day but have abandoned it.

Looking good OP, definitely on the right track!

no need to soak your colonized grains.
