Do you exercise? * 1
    #27059755 - 11/27/20 08:00 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

If so, what kind of exercise and how often?

I’ve been lazy for the past month or so, but prior to that I was doing upper body dumbbell and body weight exercises about 3-4 times a week, 1 day of lower body stuff (lunges, dumbbell squats, hamstring curls, calf raises, theraband stuff for my hips and adductors), and a couple times a week doing HIIT 30/20/10 routine on an exercise bike, usually 3 rounds of 3-5 sets.

Gotta get back into it, the motivation just hasn’t been there lately. I just feel so much better mentally when I’m working out regularly, sleep is better, less stress etc.

Not as much right now. I have a harder time motivating myself to do it when I am not at the gym. Once I get to the gym it's easy for me to stay motivated to keep exercising for at least an hour. At home I can easily get distracted after doing 15 or 20 minutes of work. I use one of these:

it's not perfect but it's better than only being able to use body weight.

I wish I worked out more. I need to. I know I need to and I still haven't established the habit. With a 2 year old and wife at home, it's reeeeeeaaaaalllllyyyyyy easy to let the day disappear and it's very difficult to re-establish this habit.

I used all the time. And I know it's like imperative to mental health. Unfortunately my knee does not need any additional stress, as I am likely going to need a knee transplant before 50 already, due to my job (if I don't change, I am a nurse).

I haven't worked out in like 4 years mostly due to a work-related injury but I'm not injured anymore so I could work out if I wanted to but no gyms are open and when I don't have a gym membership I don't have the motivation to just go on a jog outside. I have to go to a gym to run on a damn treadmill. I should just consider buying a treadmill because that would probably be cheaper than having a gym membership.

I do mostly bodyweight exercises and I have a kettlebell at home. It's all you need to do really. Pushups are a lot better than doing nothing if you can't/won't go to a gym.

Just to expand a little on that-- I'd say pushups, situps, chinups and squats/lunges and you got most of the bases covered for almost no money at all. Chinup bars are super cheap and you could use some dumbbells for sqauts/lunges if you want or need to.

i take epicatechin and laxogenin pills, along with creatine powder and arginine akg powder. my exercise comes in pill form.  :awesomenod: after 3 months i've seen actual muscle growth despite my only exercise coming from cashiering at work. this is a job i've had for 3 years, so it's not like it's simply mistaken correlation either - right now it's slower than normal due to the pandemic and wintertime, so if anything i'm getting less exercise than normal lol.

granted, it costs me about 70 bucks a month in supplements, but eh... that's probably cheaper than a gym membership anyways, and a heck of lot less effort.  :hehehe:

Exactly. I get my exercise just through daily activities and chores but I make it a point to hit AT LEAST 30 minutes of activity a day. no exceptions.

i was using arginine AKG because it was a possible anti-aging compound from some recent studies with mice, along with metformin. the muscle building support was just an added bonus, lol. not sure if it's exactly the same as l-arginine, or if that would be exactly the same as l-citrulline. (other than absorption effectiveness, that is, i meant if they all do the same thing.)

the epicatechin is for inhibiting myostatin, a compound which inhibits muscle growth (certain breeds of animals, like bully whippets, have genes which inhibit this, and some humans too), so if you're just going for muscle growth that's probably the main one to take. the laxogenin is supposed to increase protein synthesis without messing with hormone levels, which makes it another excellent one to take - but if you're going to just take one of those i'd go for the epicatechin.

and what's wrong with laziness? the entirety of modern civilization came about due to people saying "fuck this nonsense!" and striving for smarter, lazier solutions to mindless drudgery, so that we could get past all that boring grind and have more time for fun stuff!

who wants to hit weights for hours on end when you can just swallow a few pills, have nice results, and use that nice sexy body to do what you want in life, whether it be lazing about, having fun in bed, or exploring the world? a world full of healthy people sure beats having a world of fatties, right? :P

i dunno... but i do know that i've felt the best i've been in my whole life, both physically and mentally. part of it is simply because my back no longer hurts. part of it is simply looking in the mirror and seeing a body that's changing, looking better every day. part of it is having far more energy than ive ever had, feeling lighter on my feet. i can squat down and bend over, then get up without feeling like it's a monumental task to simply get upright again.

now i feel like if i had to run for my life from an angry monster, id at least have a chance. well, maybe not if it chased me for more than a hundred yards or so. i'm not THAT fit yet. but give me several more months and maybe i could last a mile or two. i'm still technically overweight, but i'm definitely no longer in the obese category.

Yes I'm also a part time personal trainer and nutrition consultant, been training myself for others for over a decade, and been certified to do so since 2015.

I workout and lift weights/train 6 days a week, resting only on Sunday (active rest, lots of mobility, stretching, walking, etc.).

This is me about a year back before the COVID shit hit and I had to close my studio space:

That and my psychology work keeps me sane.

lol, checked with my dietician - i have lost 6 more pounds, but 2 of them were muscle according to the bioelectrical impedance analysis machine. weirdly enough though, it's pretty obvious that i'm more muscular than i used to be, at least in the good areas like the thighs, calves, arms, and chest area. a few months ago, they used to be like squishy marshmallows, and now they feel like... well, slabs of meat. she said that it doesn't show where the lean mass was lost though, just that it was lost, so i guess it's possible i just lost it in some areas where it was "useless" due to lost weight and no longer needed to hold up that fat and it got redirected to the muscles where it did more good standing up all day ringing up groceries?

regardless, i got yelled at (ok ok she's really sweet, it was just a gentle chiding) to eat more protein to prevent the muscle loss. it's true i don't eat nearly enough protein - looking back i realize i probably only eat 20-30 grams a day on average, and she wants me to eat more like 80. i guess i need to look into protein shakes and eggs. i don't have a blender though, im dirt poor, and i HATE artificial sweeteners, which a lot of protein shakes seem to have. tried one of them, shamrock farms, and it was... blegh. tolerable, but just barely. i can't stand sucralose. stevia is just as bad too, it's got a horribly bitter aftertaste for me. just give me sugar, dammit!

i definitely do think the "muscle pills" are working, though. it's pretty obvious just from feel alone, though it's starting to show with looks. i just feel stupid for not realizing earlier i've been sabotaging my efforts by essentially starving myself of the needed building blocks for actually building muscle. <_<;;;

(not to mention some studies show a diet high in protein is excellent for losing weight too...)

well. i just discovered that arginine AKG powder and L-arginine are indeed, two different things in at least one important way - they mix differently with juice. i had accidentally bought the latter instead of the former off amazon so was using it today since i ran out of AKG, and mixed it with some of my old orchard apple berry blend juice. same juice, different powder.

only this time, it turned the juice from red to purple, neutralized it's acidity entirely, and the nasty taste remained because the acidity of the juice was gone and so was some of the flavor. D: i think i might need something else entirely to mix this with... perhaps something alkaline such as milk...? because seriously, the stuff tastes awful. with the akg powder i'd mix it with a tiny splash of water, swirl to dissolve it, then mix with 8 ounces of grape juice or other acidic juice and it would mask the taste beautifully. if the L-arginine neutralizes citric acid though, i'm in trouble LOL.

been experimenting some more with the awfulness that is L-arginine lol. td;lr - get arginine AKG. <_< it still tastes godsawful, but it doesn't neutralize acids like a pH strip from hell, so you can mix it with juice and disguise the taste easily.

UNLIKE L-ARGININE. :psycrankey: after the cocktail juice mix fail, i tried milk. it mixed! ...and tasted like milk mixed with dead fish. dead fish that had been left out for several days. not heavily fishy, but when it tastes like that, it only takes a little hint to absolutely make your life misery drinking it. <_<; i tried grape juice again... it turned it purple. i mean, it was red grapes, but it went from reddish purple to literal kool-aid purple. once again, it lost much of it's sour taste and some of the nasty fishy taste remained unmasked.

tried chocolate protein shake - the sugar and chocolate absolutely failed to mask the taste of the L-arginine.

so far the only thing close to success is, interestingly enough, flavored kefir yogurt. (a type of drinkable yogurt.) it's tart, but it seems a lot of that comes from a different acid that isn't as affected by the L-arginine, because i noticed the kefir did NOT turn purple like the juice did. or at least, not very much. it was strawberry flavored, and it did seem to turn slightly purpley and taste slightly weird, so maybe it ruined the strawberry flavoring, lol. definitely drinkable though compared to the...alternatives.

definitely going to order more AKG instead as soon as possible though, and pay more attention to what i'm ordering next time, LOL.

Funny you guys say this, I literally have my first massive batch of custom flavorless protein powder BCCA blend, arriving today. You can't taste it I've mixed, baked, etc. with it all summer as a test. Same with my clients, we tweaked it and nailed it and they all love it. It's clean AF and there are no fillers. I will gladly sell some to peeps here if interested once I have it all packaged up! Expanding to mail order for 2021.

That's awesome. Would have given in a try for sure, if I was on the same continent.

Also, your picture from a year ago is impressive, quite lean. What would you estimate your BF% was at in that pic?

Thank you! If international happens, I'll be absolutely sure to let you know :sunny:.

As for BF%, that's a fantastic question; I've never truly measured it. What does it look like to you, out of curiosity? I'll take an updated pic in the same exact pose later today for comparison purposes :strong:.

the one i'm taking is a chocolate flavored one from Integrated Supplements - Home edition. it's a bit pricey at 28.99 at walmart, but then again... so were all the other ones, so i guess i can't complain. EBT works with it too, which was nice. i guess it makes sense is it is technically nutritious food.

sweetened with sugar and monkfruit - i can still taste it, but they added sea salt, which helps to cut down the aftertaste to much more tolerable levels to a supertaster like me. it's passabably drinkable, mostly tastes like a chocolate milk/hot chocolate if you heat it up with only a slightly suspicious aftertaste. <_<;

i really don't get why they don't just make, you know, a NORMAL flavored protein powder with just plain sugar for us people who don't care about 0 carb shit. some of us just want protein dangit! :psycrankey:

I'm no expert, and must note that BF% can look different, on different people. So just guesstimating... You can visibly see some striations of the muscles, and a bit of vascularity going on. Also, I'm gonna assume that your front side is also as good, and there's not much if any flab on those abs? If so, I'm going with ~10% and maybe even below. You apparently don't seem to eat badly (much unhealthy stuff) at all, good job if so.

I hope you find that inspiration to get back to exercising consistently, Feevers!    Make it your 2021 resolution!

I go for runs of a couple miles 3-4 times a week.  I usually do between 20-60 pushups daily.  I have dumbbells I need to get back in a routine with.  I like to do a super set with them consisting of should flies, overhead press, and then front raises.

I get crazy strong highs from working out that last the entire day and sometimes the next day, especially running.  Exercise is great at improving mental health, especially during the pandemic.

I replaced my workout routine with whiskey. It uh.. it has not been giving me the gains that I had hoped.

Every day. Being physically fit and being physically able to do whatever I want in the physical world is super important to me.
