Sterilize Substrate in InstaPot?
    #27059663 - 11/27/20 06:03 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Hey guys, I have some left over substrate (CVG) that I plan on using in a week or so. I flash heated it the first time and I’m a little paranoid about contam so I was wondering if I could use my instapot as a pressure cooker for the time being. I believe it gets up to 11psi. Would I just have to cook the substrate longer or are my efforts futile? Thank you!

I use an 8 ltr instapot to steralise my grain in jars. I make sure i give them 2 hrs on pressure cooking setting. It works really well. No contams yet.

There is no reason to sterilize or pasteurize CVG
If you're worried about it and have another brick then toss the brick in with your older CVG and pour boiling water on it. You won't be fucking your water content in your old substrate because you're making new substrate alongside it. Mix and check FC when done.

If it's only enough to fit in an instapot and you're still worried and have no leftover coir then just toss it in the oven for awhile. This is needless but whatever gives you peace of mind.

Also buy a real pressure cooker. Leave the as seen on tv kitchen gadgets for food and eventual attic storage

Well if your aim is to heat it up to kill anything living on it just toss the shit in a roasting pan and have at it.
It's pretty needless, unless it's physically growing mold right now it's fine.

Or just make another batch in the same bucket as your old stuff. Boiling waters more than enough to kill any mold, as unlikely as it is to be there. If it's at FC right now and you make your new batch with it using the same amount of water it should all end up relatively the same on the other end.

Or just use it as is and stop worrying.
