Do you drink? Have your drinking or drug habits changed since psychedelics?
    #27059451 - 11/26/20 11:41 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

I post this as a recovering drunk. I drank heavy for ~ 10 years. My second LSD experience pulled me out of the denial of having a drinking and drug problem. Shortly after I checked into long term rehab, went and still go to 12 step meetings and have not drank in 4 years. Also have up all cannabis and stimulant use as well. I don't trip often but have used psyches as a tool.

The last few months I had been dealing with a break up and a fair amount of lingering depression. Decided to take a trip for the first time in about 2 years and had an amazing and spiritual experience. Depression has been 100% gone since that trip and am able to see things from another perspective. I took 250ug of lsd and 4g of mushrooms simultaneously and had an intense god experience. I saw a spirit, and bowed to my knees and asked God to have mercy on my soul. I saw a bright white light and I felt an overwhelming sense of relief and all my built up tension just evaporated. I've felt lighter since that trip and began dating other women.

The healing power of psychedelics is amazing, I just have a hard time talking about it with other people in "recovery." I've brought it up with a couple of close people but it's generally frowned upon. I have 0 regrets.

Just out of curiosity, why did you stop cannabis use?

No, my drug and drinking has changed because I knew pretty quickly when it moved over to being a problem. Coming from a long line of alcoholics and having a brother who died from an OD/dad who died from alcoholism keeps addiction on the list of possibilities at all times.

I'm still fucking with alcohol a tiny bit, but I am just starting a a 60 dry spell to see how I feel about it. I know that just the fact that I don't want to do it is sign enough that I need to.

Psychedelics can do that, simply for their ability to give new perspective, but they definitely don't necessarily do that.

Glad to hear you are sober, OP!

I quit cannabis because I was a habitual smoker. If smoke hash/shatter/wax all day every day. I found that it contributes to my anxiety and paranoia. Sometimes I miss it but I got a good job that I wouldn't sacrifice to get stoned.

My first year of sobriety was rough and had to face some demons through a sober mindset. I drank at least a fifth every night when I was drinking, sometimes more. Had lots of cravings but got through. Haven't felt the need to drink or take stimulants for 3 years now.

What job you got?

I am currently an RN and playing the odds by smoking occasionally. Not sure how I feel about it, but I'm feeling very Thoreau-esq.

I have been drinking too much but never nearly that much. Like 200ml 3 times a week. Alcohol is not the same anymore.. I used to be chill with 4 beers. Now I need like 8.

Yes and yes they have changed mainly my alcohol habits, but I don't know if it's really due to taking psychedelics. More like life experience in general. Drinking wine right now. Alcohol is a decent drug because the side effects are so clear, so if you can keep that in mind... but you cant if you are drunk all the time...

I never drink, but I ingest a lot of cannabis. Psychedelics didn't really influence my weed use, but they did firm up that I hate drinking and so why bother doing it

I wish I could smoke and not drink,  but weed makes me so fucking energetic and kind of anxious, it is a hard state of mind and body to manage. I dunno if it's the weed or zero tolerance or what. I kind of think the weed today is fucking poison and not balanced. It's like booze, compared to beer or something

could be just low tolerance, or perhaps differences in how you're wired. weed isn't for everybody, it mostly just makes me sleepy

Alchohol is such crappy substance. Its effects are so lame and sloppy. I lost all interest years ago, even a small drink on special occasion or glass of wine, is a definite no for me dawg. I dont feel left out or anything if others are drinking and I'm not. Actually I might feel a little embarrassment and pity for those who drink in excess. It's like "damn look at him just guzzling that poisonous fluid and turning belligerent"

Just lost a co-worker friend this month to drunk driving too, alchohol is just annoying to see it persevere among our people

I agree wholeheartedly, its a shame such a dangerous and -in my opinion- boring drug is basically forced on you if you grow up in Canada or the US, I dunno how one gets through highschool without drinking excessively socially.

I've got an additional bias though as alcohol doesn't even make me feel good, even if I drink a small amount I instantly get a headache and feel like being alone lol

Imagine if it was the other way around. People initiated into tripping on mushrooms (I dont think lsd is so great for young people) and smoking weed. Alcohol might be more enjoyable and less of a problem for many actually...

I don't think so at all, myself and many people took acid and mushrooms started regular weeds smoking early on, me by 16 YO all that in full swing, I'm 30 now and healthy.

My old friends who drank through childhood till now are ridden with bad health and addictions of all expensive and destructive kinds

Interesting point, probably letting kids try a small amount of minor drugs with parental supervision is the best route, like having a drink with family is really the healthiest way, rather than leaving it to idiot high schoolers to chug vodka in the woods or whatever.
I think letting people smoke a bit of weed starting at like age 16 or preferably 18  would be ok -definitely not earlier because of its negative effects on developing brains. I honestly don't think people should trip so early though, I know lots start real young but most of those I know who started tripping in high-school aren't the most well adjusted now.
I think people should be in their 20s to trip, honestly, and some people not even then, as I think it takes a fair bit of maturity and self-control to get through a less than stellar trip without freaking out, and even to get much of benefit out of a decent trip, some capacity for self-reflection is needed.

:ilold: It is so hilarious how trendy it is to shit on alcohol. Pretty good drug overall. Sad I have not been able to moderately drink but it was fun while it lasted.

Most people I know who started doing any drugs in 'childhood' are not really successful. Maybe it's my group, but most are sad failures.

I started doing drugs at 21 and wouldn't recommend anyone do so earlier. Too much temptation not to use drugs to regulate your mood instead of learning to regulate it yourself.

Alcohol effects everyone differently, but the long term effects of overuse are clear and undeniable.

It's completely crappy that they sell alcohol on every street corner and in ever store and it's in your face all the time.

Personally, I like drinking, it makes me feel good and gives whatever I am doing more energy and excitement.

The problem is the flipside. FOr what goes up, must come down! I decided to quit drinking because even though I really enjoy it, the negative side of things just isn't worth it.

Plus, the cost goes beyond just health into the pocketbook.

OP: I'm glad you had that revelation!

Have been overdoing cannabis for many a year.

Because of tolerance, I started drinking before I start smoking for the day, so I'm a bit out of it by the time I have the first smoke which I feel more strongly. But it's obviously not good, nor healthy and safe. Once I passed out and collapsed for a couple seconds, that was a few months ago and I told myself: I'm stopping this nonsense.

Problem is, all I want is my first psych experience, but in my circles I have not ever had access to any in the 10+ years since I educated myself about them and very much wanted to try them.

Earlier this year ago managed to stop cannabis, but I started to lean too much on alcohol for that period and that had some un-ideal effects.. but anyway I managed to get sober and things were swell.

Unfortunately due to some life events, unexpected stresses, I lost some willpower and started smoking again a couple months ago, and once I start, I can't stop. And now I'm back at the position where I'm abusing alcohol to catalyze the cannabis high thereafter..

I just want a psych experience so desperately at this point, be it: Shrooms, acid, 2cb, or even salvia or anything...

Anyway.. couple shots of vodka down, time to refill

:icecreamsadness:

Great post rise against.

I've actually been thinking about this recently and was going to post the exact same thing.
About 2 years ago a friend was admitted to hospital with a very damaged liver, from heavy drinking, and although I don't drink anywhere near the amount that he did, it freaked me out that I stopped drinking for 6 months. But that was also during a time when I had access to mushrooms and they were a very helpful tool for bettering myself.
2 years on and no mushrooms, I'm back drinking again, and even though I don't see it as excessive, a few beers on a Friday and Saturday night, I'm still aware because I have created a habit where I work a hard week and like to end it with some beers. I home brew them, and have also recently been building a still.

But it's something that I keep in the back of my mind I don't want to ever become excessive. Hopefully mushrooms may be in my future again, and point my body on a more healthy path.

I do enjoy drinking but know the damage it can cause, but fortunately or unfortunately... I don't get bad hangovers, maybe if I woke up feeling like shit that may change things for me.

Maybe that's one issue, becoming too efficient..

I do my hangover right after drinking and still before breakfast, the solution to alcohol (if it's not too late) is: copious amounts of water. Don't go and get water poisoning now, the kidneys can process 500ml of fluids on average per hour. So start with no more than 500ml-750ml, and then 250ml at increments thereafter as you feel fit.

Alcohol aint good, take care of your body.

Hey dude, believe me this site is the best resource in the world for growing hallucinogenic mushrooms.  Please check out the stickied threads in the mushroom cultivation section if you want to learn more.  It may take you a few months to figure out how but you could grow literally a lifetimes worth within no time.

I no longer drink but I sometimes crave it.  I smoke too much weed but I still like it a lot and dont want to quit, just always working on finding a balance with cannabis.  I overindulge almost daily.

Tripping has helped me quit kratom, cigarettes, and alcohol, as well as keep me away from dope and all the other bad shit I used to do.  Very grateful for lsd, mushrooms, and dmt
