Lots of Grain Inoculated tonight - 1 quick Pressure Cooking Question
    #27048139 - 11/19/20 10:20 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

I loaded a bunch of jars tonight with LC from 3 different varieties - B+, Golden Teacher and Pans Cyan. I used JOC PAN TEK Millet\Rye in the colored lids jars and MudaFuka's Updated Bottle TEK on the Ziploc jars.

The only thing that has me a little concerned is I did not cover the colored lids that have a syringe filter and self healing port with aluminum foil when I pressure cooked them. No sure if this is going to be an issue or not. Thanks for any info.

The point of the foil over lids is to prevent moisture getting into them during cooking.

UPDATE: I inoculated on November 19th - 7 days ago. I have seen growth in all of the zip-lock tubs for all 3 strains. However, I have seen no growth in the glass jars with the Jok TEK using 75% millet and 25% rye. I did the cold soak for 24 hrs., followed by 16 hrs. of drying in a strainer and stirring every few hours. I then bottled and pressure cooked them. I did not put aluminum foil over the lids and they all did not come through. I am assuming it is this why they did not show any signs of inoculation for 3 different strains.

Could be anything, but what I see more likely to be happening here is that the grains might be too dry, that can indeed delay the leap-off tremendously. Could also be a bad LC, or a combination of both.

I assumed it could be a moisture issue because from what you said you strained the millet for 16 hrs which is a lot of time for millet after a cold 24hrs soak.

You just need to strain it real quick until it stops dripping (we're talking minutes here) and then jar up wet. They'll come out nice trust me.
Prolonged drying of millet after a cold soak is a sure fire way to get dry grains after the cycle.

Yes, the grains were too dry. At the bottom of each jar, I have very little myc growth. I will make sure to strain until it stops dripping like Josex mentioned.

However, the MudaFuka TEK is doing well. My new problem is that I have 3 different strains and my main goal was mushrooms by New Years and this is new for me. I am wondering if a vermiculite only casing layer will be good enough for Golden Teacher and the Pan Cyans.
