Lion's Mane fruiting advice?
    #27043297 - 11/17/20 05:32 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

This straw bag isn't solid white...some bare straw left although it's a solid block and is pinning. Should I slit the bag and let it rip? Or see if it will colonize more?

On the other hand, I've got a snow-white block of aspen wood chips that hasn't pinned at all.

Thanks for your input. Looking forward to trying these.

I'd definitely fruit it if it's pinning!  Just because the entire bag isn't a condensed, solid white doesn't mean it's not fully colonized, LM is not only very thin and wispy, but it's also very fast!

Lions mane often will fruit without even fully colonizing.  Theres that as well as the whispy thing like stated above.

What appears not fully colonized compared to other mushrooms is actually fully to LM

Also, that snow white block is that Lions Mane?  Why haven't you punctured and begun fruiting?

Just like when on agar LM mycelium can be hard to see. If it is fruiting it is either colonized or contaminated.

That was my first bag (a week before the straw one), so I was waiting until I saw pins. It colonized quickly, but I read that it would show pinning when it was ready to fruit and show more or less where to slit the bag based on that.

My fault I probably should have cut the bag a few days ago. But they're both open now. Should I put them both into a sgfc or just open air with some misting?

btw, the straw bag is a regular mushroom bag. The aspen chips/bran one is a gallon zip lock with a couple of micropore taped holes.

As far as fruiting conditions my only experience is a modified greenhouse so others may certainly be worth waiting to hear from.  However I've seen a couple lion's mane grows here in modified monotubs/sgfc that were rather impressive!  The search feature might be of quicker assistance here tho!

you want to wait till its fully colonized always... otherwise u risk of contams ie bacterial.. loose yeild etc.

no issues if it starts to "pin" in the bag just wiat till its done then fruit. lions main doesnt really have pins but maybe blobbing?

also usually best to not listen to people who are new.

Yeah you can most def use a SGFC or just simply a monotub with micropore tape covering holes, you will want to start with two pieces over the holes and then adjust to that accordingly.  I'd love if other people would cooroborate my idea.  Pretty much make a mini greenhouse.  It's really simple.

Also please know I wasn't being disrespectful or anything when asking why you hadn't fruit it.  After I made the post I started thinking that maybe you're doing the same thing I did when I had lower quantities of bags to fruit, I'd usually wait until they were relatively close in growth; hey when you can do it, DO IT!  the mushrooms will always tell you what they need

PS. maybe I'm like a looney guy but I'm thinking that you've been here for so long yet your account is so new.
