Hey guys it’s been a while since I’ve posted, for most of you who haven’t seen me/my posts lately or at all, this is the first year I’m trying to do go from spore back to fungus acóplela.. not going to lie either probably one of my more stressful years in life period. Lol for a couple years I’ve been getting fully colonized jars of wbs or grain or whatever from a buddy and then mixing it up with some coir and fruiting them... well the good news is I’ve got 2 totes of two different strains right now which seem to be fruiting awesomely( is that a word?) idk any who bad news is I’ve got a strain of penis envy and I’ve been getting up to my 3-4 and even 5th transfer using agar petri dishes. And for some reason I’m not getting that rhizmophopric (spelling) growth I’ve seen and got before it seems like no matter how or where I get samples from or if I even start with a new culture it continuously ends up the same.... very fuzzy or cotton like. Maybe this is just what this strain looks like??? Idk but I need some help cuz it’s been driving me bananas please any and all thoughts welcome...
-------------------- Hope I can help & Thanks for the help!

What kind of agar are you using? I would try using a different nutrient as well as a different incubation temperature. The book “the mushroom cultivator” says that tomentose and rhizomorphic mycelium are largely a result of genetics as well as humidity. With tomentose or cottony resulting from humid conditions and rhizomorphic from dryer conditions. I am by no means highly versed in work on agar but I have studied the hell out of the mushroom cultivator and frequently refer back to it when having an issue. Hopefully someone more experienced can chime in.

AA+, like RW is almost always tomentose for me until it hits grains. Even when I change up agar nutrients and strengths it's generally tomentose looking.
So I would say genetics but you can still try altering nutrients or nutrient concentrations to see if you can get something rhizomorphic...thing is tomentose plates that are clean will be just as good as rhizo growth.
I have a few RW cultures that are always tomentose like that but they put out killer flushes
Rhizo is overrated

Doesn't matter if it's tomentose or rhizo. If the plate is clean, go with it.

QFT, nothing wrong with tomentose. If you're trying to isolate I think it'll be easier to fruit some and just take clones
