Albino A+ on Spawn Smelling Sweet

So, I got a syringe of AA+ spores and put it to a couple of agar plates. One showed no growth, while the other filled out nice and white, no sign of off colors. I split that plate between two different grain spawn preps (one whole brown rice and the other WBS). The brown rice appeared to colonized very quickly, within 7-8 days, but when I opened the jar to put it to sub it definitely smelled sweet. I figured something was off, but I had plenty of CVG around since I was putting together 4 shoeboxes. The other grains didn't smell off.
Flash forward to today, roughly a week later and my WBS jar from the same syringe of AA+ looks nice and white and ready to go, but I cracked it open, and it too smells sweet.
Any thoughts? Worth trying to put that to sub, or just ditch it? Perhaps the syringe is contam? Myc growth looks white and robust with no discoloration, just the unexpected sweet smell. Syringe was from mushrooms.com, which seems to be well respected around these parts.

Spawn it m8. Smell alone is not an indicator of contamination. I have been cultivating AA+ for a while now and usually it smells a sweet kind of mushroom musk. Some bacteria could cause them to smell as such, but from the description it doesn't sound like a bacterial contam. Could you show us a pic? EDIT: Also bacteria show up in many ways, most of them will stall out your myc. The speed at which you described shows there was no bacterial stalling the myc.

Thanks for the swift response. Here are some pics:

It's a little wet, obviously, but nothing off color. The rice colonized in 8 days, and this WBS colonized in 10, so definitely swift.
The rice to CVG in a shoebox looks like this after 3 days.

It's a little wispy, but it's growing fast. Could it be anything but the AA+ myc at this point? It has the same sweet-ish smell as the WBS pictured above. Definitely a different scent from the GT, Volcano, and Koh Samui grains I put to bulk the same day, but all four boxes are popping out the top after three days, so we'll see how it goes ...

I believe it may be a mold you're dealing with. Allow it to come to full consolidation. Normally we have sporulation with molds at this point, but I have run into molds that are white and grow just like the myc of a mushroom. Next time you should post pics first with descriptions.

Will do. What would indicate sporulation, an off color?
Also, what do you make of the fact that two different grains came down with the same "scent"? If it is mold, more than likely the agar plate was suspect? Again, agar plate was white, even if fluffy. Not sure if fluffy is normal for AA+. My oysters certainly have fluffy myc, but cubes not so much.
Thanks again for your help.

Yes, usually mold spores have color to them. Mold is usually white like myc until it sporulates, its what causes the green color of trich. The myc you displayed doesn't have rhizo growth so suspect mold. Together the smell, whispyness of the myc, and how it is consolidating is an indicator of mold as well. Also the time frame it took for it to colonize the spawn. 8 days from Agar to grain? Superfast. However its why you should allow for full consolidation, either it'll fruit or it wont and you'll have your answer. For now its suspect, but could very well be AA+
