Virginia id request. Lions mane?
    #27057270 - 11/25/20 03:21 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

So  I was just scouting around the log pile At my shop that I run a tree service from.  This time of the year I find all kinds of lions mane. I found some thing that kind of resembles a lion’s mane and has a similar smell. It was growing on the top of a log instead of hanging down. It’s starting to turn in very waterlogged. Is this a variety of lions mane? Or do I have something else here?

I think it may be lions mane but it’s just overripe maybe? Looks almost like angel hair pasta.

Compare to Sparassis crispa. Doesn't look like Hericium to me, but I'm also not familiar with Sparassis.

That is what I was thinking. If so I wish I  would’ve found it a week or so sooner. That would’ve been the biggest one that I found so far. It doesn’t smell bad But it’s certainly starting to degrade. What point does it lose its medicinal value?
