 Inoculating grain with Liquid Culture. Many fails. Any tips?

Have tried different strains, different grains, different amount of inoculant but can't get consistent (or any) results.
I've had lots of success going from agar->grains but want to bypass the agar if I can as I get lots of contams that way.
Any tips?

Are you using MS syringes? How were you inoculating the agar? I would keep doing agar to grain since that's how you're having success and it seems like that's how all the TCs on here operate.
Take my advice with a grain of salt since I'm a complete noob. In fact, I'm still preparing for my first project. My plan is to use a MS syringe to colonize 24 BRF cakes, use the ones that don't get contaminated to spawn multiple shoeboxes and start cloning to agar so I don't have to deal with syringes and I'll hopefully have better odds at avoiding contaminations in the future.

I've tried both MS and liquid culture. Same result.

What did you inoculate the LC with? If you are still trying to inoculate grains with spores its likely
A. You used a dirty syringe full of spores to LC and then your LC is contaminated
B. The agar you put in the LC was not clean enough and the LC is contaminated
