I fuckin hate the two piece with full sfd. Sometimes the lid comes up with the band, sometimes it doesn’t. What problems do you run into with unmodded plastic?

If they are any size other than the size of a jar rim then they have been cut. They come in regular and wide mouth sizes. Ive never seen them any other size.

If the lid is in-between the sfd and the ring then they will stay together.  The problems I run into with plastic is the warping. You've gotta be very careful not to twist em on too tight and keep them away from the sides of the pc

I’ve seen 1.5” diameter SFD’s that were made like that but they were a ripoff compared to buying 90 mm ones and cutting them down.

I was planning on using a sharpie to get a little more than a quarter inch loose for the plastic till I got the hang of it. Hadn’t thought of getting too close to the metal being a problem though. Maybe regular mouth would work better? Did you use ball brand or generic like mainstays?

I thought cutting SFDs impaired their function? Well I'll call these one and done the price was right at under 20 cents a unit. Beading felt has worked well for me so I might just stick with it. Going to try those self-adhesive tyvek looking stickers at some point.

Just found a source for 1 piece metal lids, $30 for 72 of them but of course like everything else out there they're out of fuckin stock which means to me that they can't get their supply from China.

COOOOVIIIIIIIIIID!  :shakefist:

Maybe RR said cutting SFD’s ruined them but I’ve some that have been through 1000’s of runs that say different.

Any plastic lit will melt if it gets too hot either from touching metal or a dry pc

Have a little spawn that had to go into a storage unit for 2 weeks.  Wasn't climate controlled and when I picked them up they were at 51 degrees farenheit.  Hoping they are ok, going to cross my fingers.

50 is fine, lots of people store colonized jars in the fridge.

Only using 1" SFDs at the moment.
Haven't had any real contamination issues at the moment, around 2% which is borderline acceptable to me. I usually do a run of 100-200 jars or anywhere from 9 to 18 flats of jars at a time which is why I haven't jumped to plastic lids yet because of the volume needed.

Contamination rate last run was a bit higher but the only difference I had there was using double layered paper mp tape for a filter. Not going back to that, my beading felt circles worked much better. Hoping with SFDs contam rate will be 0. I assume the SHIP could also be an issue as you are saying.

I don't mind losing a few jars out of a big run anymore, I just toss them in a few old rubbermaid bins in the garage and if anything survives come next year I'll throw them all in a trench breaking the jars and cover it with horse shit and straw.

Here's a question....
If I'm using full size SFD (spans the whole lid), do I still require the metal disk with a hole drilled onto it?  I assumed that I d, and hav been using it, but wasn't sure about how much things would dry our with just the SFD there.
Thoughts?

You'll dry out your spawn to uncolonizible levels without the lid

Colonized spawn in the freezer?

I thought freezing temps kill cube mycelium

FWIW I have many lids made from cut-up SFD's that have been used for plenty of PC cycles..they work great. Unmodded plastic lids work too. Metal lids get rusty fast IME

Rate my revelation; ideally, air should just be exchanged from one direction if you want shrooms to fruit there

That's why singular hole tubs or shoeboxes can fruit well, and nicely, where the fruits seem to seek the air

I also saw this at the pearl oyster farm

Maybe Santy Claus will bring me a label maker this year so my labels will stop looking like the cat did them.

@Pastywhyte when I've found a cloneworthy clone of your RW you said it performs better with a lower spawn ratio? I seem to remember reading and holy fuck I really read too much of these forums, anyways.

When a clones got and I want to start making a run of muda-style containers like I'm doing now do you think this ratio is still within your parameters? A little over 3/4 of a quart of WBS split between 3 1qt containers then the rest with CVG.. that should be roughly 1:3, unless you're seeing better performance closer to 1:4 then I could probably stretch a jar to 4 containers, feels like that's pushing it though.

AA, RW, MM, PEU, Mckennaii mass produced muda-style bottles ongoing.

I took some advice from stareatclouds or someone else but I'm pretty sure it was him. I just started putting numbers on my plates and jars and then logging them into a notebook. Saves me a ton of time and masking tape. It's literally just "11/23 - inoculated plates. 1 - Amazon, 2 - Pan Cyan"
