Cultivation on woods: Mold - what to do next?
    #27055490 - 11/24/20 12:49 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Dear all,

I have just started into the new topic of mushroom cultivation. Therefore I have got some woods (Betulla, Quercus) and some mycelium in pins (Shiitake & Oyster). After getting the pins inside the woods and covering them with bee wax, I have put them aside to a shady, humid place. That was now almost 3 month ago...

Now after that long period the trunks are partly covered with mold and I am not quite sure, if it's bad for the cultivation and what to do next?! It might even be the mushrooms itself and not mold, but maybe some of you more experienced grower could tell me?

Furthermore the trunks are still outside and it started to get cold (around 0 degree at night, up to 10 during the day) and it's still gonna get colder. So I am not quite sure, how to proceed to get some yummy mushrooms soon... Please help!

Find attached some pictures:

I would be happy for any kind of help!
Peace out
Mart in White

I'm going to take a guess that those logs are not getting enough fresh air with the burlap on top, creating a condition leading to the green mold.

I would increase the air flow around the logs. I dont know if there's anything to do about the mold now.. brush it off?

Maybe start/order some bags to try indoors in the meantime too, sounds like you're already fighting mother nature and by those temp predictions , it doesn't seem like it's gonna get any easier any time soon!

One other thing, those logs look a little big around the waist.. they will take longer to colonize because of that.
