Hi there folks, first-time poster/amateur mycologist here looking to gain some knowledge from others in the community. I recently moved to Oregon(albany) and the forest has definitely got a hold of me here, especially the wide variety of fungus, both medicinal and edible. I am just getting starting hunted and would like to hear a little about the area its' species, any hot spots, tips, and or knowledge. I'm also open to pms, or even meeting up in person for a day of hunting!

Check out mushroom observer and iNaturalist for different species and where they've been found around you. Do more research into what species you are interested in and where they grow and how to ID them. Then just start putting in the footwork, that can be the hardest part. You just gotta keep going!

I strongly recommend that you hang out here on shroomery, start learning about the fungi that you encounter by posting detailed up close clear pictures of the cap, gills and stipe (stem) including the stem base because some mushrooms are identified to species level based on characteristics that are found on the stipe base.
Read everything you can find on your target species, ask questions because we are all here to learn and help each other. Be extremely careful about where your advice comes from especially when it comes to something that you plan to consume. Do NOT assume that you have been given the right identification because someone has a Trusted identifier tag such as myself. When it comes to something that I want to eat and I am not familiar with it, I will post it on 2 or more mushroom sites like shroomery, mushroom observer, inaturalist.org etc and wait for multiple people to chime in with their identification suggestions before eating anything.
Please read the forum rules before posting anything else
