Is there any where to research the effects of various strains, going beyond just trip reports?
    #27054867 - 11/24/20 02:58 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

There a many different strains of shrooms even within the cubes.  IS there some where to find out what the effect of different strains is like?  I have heard of Erowid.org, is there any where else?

It would be nice to know the potency of what I am going to cultivate.

SO far I just go with previous experience of my own and take pot luck with what I order and just try things out.

If you would like to know potency you need to grow out a clone that you have previously known to be potent. When you deal with multispore, the genetics are random and so is the potency.

A variety is the name on the label (Golden Teachers, McKennii, Penis Envy, ect.)

A strain is when two spore cells match up. When two spores match up, they have unique genetics.

There are 3 psychedelic alkaloids in mushrooms, psilocybin, psilocin, baeocystin. Do different ratios affect the trip? Not in anyway I've ever noticed.

APologies for the wrong terminology, still learning about mycology here.

I think I ment to say variety rather than strain.

When I get spore prints or syringes, i get different varieties not strains.

What I am trying to say is that are there ways to find out what a trip on Golden Teachers will be like at a given dose level compared to say a trip on PE at a given dose level.

A bit like a glass of wine vs a whiskey or a vodka. They all give various levels and types of "drunkness" for want of a better word...

I currently have a batch of PE, a batch of golden teachers, as well as a batch of Ecuadorian, I had B+ too but finished those off. The only difference I can tell is that the PE is the most potent, followed by my B+, golden teachers and then Ecuadorian was my least potent (however giant mushroom size.) I notice a different in potencies but that's pretty much it from a tripping standpoint. The biggest difference is that 3g of my penis envy uncut is comparable to 5g of my Ecuadorian. But if you grinded them up and didn't tell me which strain i ate, I wouldn't know which it was. They all feel the same

From a growing standpoint, i notice differences in yields, average mushroom sizes, how they look (color, shape, height) and how fast the different strains colonized the substrate. Which is all a lot of fun.

It's not like marijuana strains where different strains can produce varied effects. At least not in my experience.

I would say its different every time. They are all cubensis with random genetics. There are different species of mushrooms that contain the same (And sometimes different) trippy chemicals in different amounts. Usually requires different techniques to grow though. Some like wood, some like grass, some you can grow, some you can't grow

Well some people swear that exotics have a different feel to the trip itself, which might be ascribed to the different concentration of various psychoactive chemicals. and don't be fooled by the relatively "low" quantities of other alkaloids, they could very well have a modulating effect in brain chemistry that we don't know shit about but that is very noticeable.

Different species (even Cube varieties) seem to produce different kinds and amounts of beta carbolines (MAO-inhibitors) that can change the experience.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7003923/#chem201904363-bib-0004c

But the only way to find out about their difference in potency and effect is to try them out yourselves.

It's more subtle than that.  Cannabis strains differences are rather easy to identify.

With mushrooms every single isolation can produce a unique trip signature, but to explore them requires pretty high doses IME.  Once you do that the distinct qualities of a strain come to the forefront, people will usually seek to propagate more of what they like.  But again it's subtle, and the causes are not really well understood either.

But my experience with strains I've grown out in any quantity is that though they all share a lot of common attributes they also all differ in certain well-defined ways, consistently.

YMMV. :cookiemonster:
