turned mine red hot
it would short out with just the cord to the wall when I pass the whole tool in the coil. Once I hooked it to a power supply problem solved

I have used the same one, not good enough for me. Tested it with control plates and got contams, this 500w one heats far faster, hotter and heats up the whole blade and part of the handle aswell. They also arent designed to be ran always on or with no load on it so you are gonna burn yours out quick. Also the laptop/brick powersupplys are only designed to run at 70-80% load so thats gonna fail too.

I recommend an on/off switch combined with a footswitch that only triggers when pressed. Thats my config right now.

All the contaminants die well before metal glows red anyway.

That's good. You're the only other person I've seen running one of these with a good psu so far.

Yes but only on the parts that are actually heating up. I see issues with the lower powered ones not heating up enough of the blade. Like I said I did plates with the lower powered one and I got contams. Maybe it was just a fluke they grew mold tho. My plan is to make a write up after 6 months of use and know its not gonna fail or cause issues.

It's an aquarium divider. I've used a metal one before but it rusted, this is way better.

Cool project. I burned out a couple of cheap zvs boards and psus trying to make one to heat my dynavap.
You are absolutely correct, Quality components are a necessity.
Foot switch is a great idea.
I'm looking forward to the more on depth write up.

Wanted to post an update. I have gone through about 100 plates and 20 spawn jars at this point and can say its been as effective and reliable as my torch. Not having to take the scalpel out of the sab has also made workflow feel smoother.

Cut out an acrylic view slot and hot glued it on, janky I know but it works.

Nice. I have a glass window in my sab. Fuck looking through that plastic. I never really use my sab anymore though. Actually, I don't even know where it is. HA

Saw this in your LAGM log and tracked you down. Haha. I've used mine from everything from heating extruder nozzles, to heating metal dab pipes. The latter of which took a bit of adjusting to get the wait time down so will need to dis\reassembling to put it back to cult work. Made it fancy with a 3d printed power switch and plug

That's a big boy. Gonna invest in a 3d printer soon. I may also build a portable rechargeable one for fun.
