Oyster?
    #27053852 - 11/23/20 12:15 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Habitat:
So I found this mushie in northwest ohio growing on a dead elm stump today. was very rainy the last couple of days
Gills:
The flesh is pure white but the cap and gills are light brown to off white. May be a little wilted. The gills run all the way down to a knot in the middle. This was growing in a shelved arrangement

Stem:
Not much of a stem. The oyster shape seemed to come out of the central clump

Cap:
The largest cap was about 11 inches wide. All the rest were between 4 and 8 inches. The texture is soft and supple yet dry. It seemed to be slightly wilted?

Spore print color:
waiting on the print

Bruising:
no bruising

Other information:
Wife said it smelled like licorice. I cant smell it.

Yes, Those Are Oysters But They Are A Tad Bit Old, You Want Them White & Prime Before They Turn Yellow/Brown

Yes definitely oyster. I agree, I wouldn't eat them as they look a bit too mature. Give it a few days and check back on the same stump and I bet you'll find some younger ones.

get a culture going. Grab spores.
Those are too old and wont be as tasty as a younger oyster.

so there were some small clusters in a couple of more spots on the stump. I left them alone to grow some more. They were just as brown as these big ones were. Almost looked like the parasols had a thin skin that was separating to reveal white underneath. I will go back and get some pics but for now I was going to make some cultures of this one to agar and I am trying to see if I can get a spore print. Thanks for the expertise!
