to put it in two polar opposites, too extreme to really fit.

Which of these two extremes is most true for you?

Happiest when doing 'nothing' from an outside perspective, which is to say I'm more satisfied when I have time to really absorb my surroundings, I often like long walks and bus rides because they give me an excuse to just watch the world. However I do usually keep busy with some small tasks, or some ambling train of thought, so I'm never truly 'doing nothing'.

I really don't like being over-busy though, which for me just means socializing more than I have energy for, as I'm pretty drained by interacting with more than a couple of people at a time.

I think I would be happiest doing nothing if I had no bills.

I would be happiest continuously busy if it was spent learning things that are interesting to me, but I tend to lean towards succumbing to nothing because it requires zero effort, so doing absolutely nothing would be miserable.

I'm always actively doing nothing. It is nice to do nothing. I love living my life in stride and being flexible with everything. what's not nice is constantly being bombarded by the rat race of society and having a job that gets in the way of hobbies, social life, free time, doing drugs etc. I'm not against labor but nobody should really ever be working more than 20 hours a week. I think people need to value relaxation a lot more.

I think people who are just constantly busy are that way because they can't stand their own thoughts in their heads. I think they are insecure with themselves. It can be an escapism method. I dated a couple of dudes who were workaholics and they are fucking crazy people. You can't ever catch them when they're on a break they never fucking stop like the Energizer Bunny. They won't stop until they're finally dead and then all that work will mean nothing.

That was loads of crap
7am-7pm 5 days a week dedicated to work. I'll come home and knock out as soon as I get home with no energy for dinner or personal endeavors.

I'm happiest when not trying to boil my life down to some shitty dichotomy based on an equally horrible Youtube song.

Whichever one I'm doing, I'd rather be doing the other.

people are always asking me if im "bored" or they'll ask if it's been busy at work and mention how at least it makes the day fly by... and i'm like... "no. not really. makes time slow to a crawl for me".

it gets a lot of confused and shocked looks. apparently people cannot comprehend that lots of make-do work does not always equate to enjoyability in life. if i'm idle, i can read a book, fold some origami, play some games, draw, play with my nanodot magnets, tidy up or fix something that needs fixing, or a million other things that catch my fancy. or just relax and daydream.

i can't any of that if i'm constantly getting hammered with work, work, work that has no purpose other than to be busy. (i'm looking at you, bosses that hate seeing workers standing around, so force their workers to do the job of janitors despite that not being in their job description and use the "other duties as needed" clause like a sledgehammer to get around it. yeah, you. go hire a effing janitor already. and pay your damn workers a living wage!)

I have suffered from anxiety and therefore cannot work in food service or retail. I used to always HATE when my co-workers and bosses would say, "I love when it's busy, it makes the day go by faster." For me, the busier it is the more ANXIETY and hatred I have for the job. I don't understand how anyone can work so fast unless they are on cocaine. Last time I checked this is work not the gym.

Bosses can go fuck themselves with the whole no standing around bullshit especially when there are absolutely no customers. like why don't you just fucking send me home if there is absolutely no work until the next customer comes in? Or just make me clock out and take a break until there are customers. Yeah let's sweep the damn floors when they were already swept about an hour ago.

I like to follow the principle learned in the story about the hare and the turtle: Slow and steady wins the race.

For all this damn busy work everyone likes to do I should be getting cash for doing nothing considering the bosses themselves actually don't do the actual work.
