Sorry Forrester, i cant remember. it looks like i can see cardboard in the bag, i know i was messing around with cardboard + wood chips when i was growing kings like that.

This bag i can read the label that says 5lbs cardboard and 5 gallons wood chips. The cardboard was hydrated in oxy clean laundry detergent and the wood chips were steam pasteurized.

That's really good yields for unsupplemented kings.  I think having some easier to digest stuff in there like straw or cardboard really helps, as an alternative to supplementing.

Yes the cardboard is easy quick nutrients and i think the pasteurized woodchips help stabilize the whole thing. a high spawn rate doesnt hurt either, 5 qts. in that "log".

One question, my guru oyster-grower

:fingerpistol:

Its fine to use pine woodchips? I read that the pine ones were not good for the task, but I don't know.

No unfortunately. pine has resins or oils which are anti-fungal or rot resistant. So not very good for mushroom growth. If they are aged it may work. (this goes for most soft woods)

BUT oysters tend to do the amazing and it wouldnt hurt to do a small experimental grow especially if you have easy access to pine chips.

Then I will try to find another type of woodchips (into a carpentry or smth) or straw
