Haha... I just meant in terms of appearance... the pic doesn't really do it justice... its like a mix of burst grain and bacteria with fuzzy myc-like threads and then it all got coated in easy mac cheese powder... lol

How it should look:
no whispy growth, no "chunky" growth. just strong healthy mycelium evenly colonizing the grains

Was gonna whip up some WBS this weekend haven't done any for the last few months and had the bag just hanging out on the kitchen floor Looked at the other side of the bag before digging in... Already damn near fully colonized before I even prepped it, probably should keep in in some sort of container next time...

Yeah idk either, but I've already used most of that bag and it's cheap, no need to return it. I thought it would be fine if it stayed dry but something must have gotten into the bag in these last few months and had a feast!

They looked fine on grain and just got sent to sub the other day.

I shouldn’t be surprised by the loss of the tubs. That’s been hiding in my plates. Does hot pours work for molds or just bacteria?

Meant to spawn one jar of pan spawn per tray and mix the bulk sub in but my dumbass dumped all the grain into the bulk substrate. So I guess I'm going all or nothing,

Ok, so I have so many things to add to this thread but I'll start with something stupid I did last week. I've recently been prepping full 40 lb bags of WBS at a time. After cooking for the right amount of time, I usually just pour it over a large mesh wooden thing I built. Given that I dump it straight onto it, I always let it dry outside, so the excess water can just flow on my yard.
Well, let me tell you, don't ever trust the weather report when doing this.... Lately, most days around here have been sunny and warm, which is very weird, and that day was no different. So I dumped my grains, then went inside to do something else. The weather report said no rain. Ten minutes later, I finally realize that it's pouring rain outside, and I run to try and save the grains, but no luck. They were already mushy and ruined!
Oh well, you live and you learn. Now I need to rethink my drying grains space... then again it's supposed to be sunny tomorrow....

I've got prolly 50 plates sitting on a shelf over the purple and magenta mixed turning beautiful ropes into a thin wispy film 😐😑 what really sucked is I changed from mea to pka at the same time used those colors to mark the new agar media, so after my whole library started acting crazy I switched back to purple mea and took transfers again and some of those wouldn't even jump off. Still working shit back to happy growth after finding d3mons post about the red coloring 🤞 blue or clear at this point and blue even makes me nervous now

So far my biggest fuck up was collecting genetics like Pokemon cards and trying to get them all in tubs instead of slants and storage, wasted months, 30 tubs worth of sub and grain, and hundreds of plates trying to do the most instead of just running my handful of isolations I know produce like I am now 😅😩

A couple days ago I was dropping agar pucks into grain jars.
The pucks are wider than the mouths of the jars, so I was slicing the agar up into 4 pieces and dropping those in with a scalpel.
One of my 4 sections had by far the most growth on it. Nicest growth too. Its origins were MS.
I dropped the transfer, mycelium down, on the bottom of the wet SAB.
After a moment’s pause, internally contemplating whether the 3-second rule could apply, I resigned myself to my fate and just transferred the remaining sections.
The good news is, the growth coming off the remaining bits is actually some of the fastest of the 4 jars!
