Did I mess up my first few harvests by underdehydrating?
    #27051439 - 11/22/20 01:56 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Ok so this is my first season actually harvesting mushrooms here in the PNW. I bought a Hamilton Beach dehydrator because I didn't want shrooms just lying about my room, and I thought I was using it correctly but after double checking my first jar and reading some posts here, I'm a little worried.

When I put the shrooms into the jar, they all felt cracker-like but now they feel a little rubbery. I was thinking I would throw them in the dehydrator again tonight while I sleep and hopefully that will complete the process; longer if need be.

I'm wondering if these first batches are still safe to eat or if I should just toss them out? I've only started adding to it since the beginning of November and I'm hoping I can still completely dry them and save them.

Should I also store them with a silica-type of absorbent?

Thanks! Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

They're safe to eat, yes.

It's actually a good idea to put them back in the dehydrator to finish up the drying process.
You want them "cracker-dry", you'll know if they split easily.

You can store them long term in any air tight container. Pasta sauce jars and mason jars are perfect.
