4 patches, one parking lot. Was waiting on some laundry at the laundromat up the road and figured i'd take a little stroll around the shopping center. Found 4 separate patches of varying sizes(could only get photos of 3). Left some to sporulate at each spot.
That makes 5 patches I've discovered over the past couple days, all within walking distance of where I'm staying. Feels good, man.

I love growing mushrooms, but i'll tell you what, there's something uniquely satisfying about discovering them in the "wild"

Here are some pics of my dunes cyanescens finds.  These are true wild cyanescens, not your landscaping ones.  You have to work for these guys.  It's a late start this year and slow too, but I have managed to find almost a thousand so far this year.  I have a few hundred still out in the many patches I know of.  We need more rain though.

WOW! Look at all those beautiful cyans. I’m gonna have to get out and do more hunting. It’s a lot of fun when you’re actually finding actives.

These are great Matanaska! What area or county are you in? I know people find then in the dunes up north but always wondered if they grew in say the Oceano Dunes, south of Pismo?

There are some dunes near me, I've ALWAYS wanted to go searching there.  There's much closer and easier woodchip patches I've found, but I've always wanted to find those wild cyans!

Today is my first day hunting this year, wish me luck!  I have 6-7 local spots to check out.

Well spent almost 4 hours searching today for new patches with no such luck.  First good place had a bunch of little parasolas and other inactives everywhere in the mulch beds, but nothing active.  Second good place seemed freaking ideal, darkwood mulch beds with all the irrigation you could ask for with rhodenderon and rose bushes everywhere.  Except.. there was nothing, nada!  el zilcho!  I could only search half today, but I think ill check again the other half when it rains next.  I think they might be spraying the mulch with a fungicide that prevents any mushrooms from growing.  Looked like there was some places with heavy bark myceliation, but it seemed that it was all just bird poop that had melted onto the bark.  Hard to distinguish!

I think tomorrow I'll check one more time in my local counties, where I've been dreaming of finding a patch (Marin/Novato counties) - and if nothing I'll take the drive down south to where I've found patches before.

Typerwritermonkey- it still seems super dry the small finds I have found have been well irrigated areas most of which are well established and produced in the past. My favorite more hidden and not irrigated spots are still crunchy underfoot.

Today I stopped by a well known large patch in SF that went off all December last year. I found these clusters and lots of pins (hopefully they get watered one way or another and don’t dry out or abort)

Damn- no luck in marin yet?
I had been thinking of taking a drive down sir francis drake blvd looking for woodchips cuz i heard there were usually a lot of nice patches to be found through there. But then i unexpectedly had real quick luck right up the road from me so i haven't made it out there

yeah some luck there but of the patches I know most arent showing any signs. Its only irrigated patches for sure, and even those are mostly too dry, only a couple that arent conservative with their watering regimen have produced some small patches that i know of

I been having better luck in other places, like these new patches from today further up north

Are there wood chips under that bark or is the allenii growing off the bark?

Awesome finds everyone, y'all rule!
This last week was pretty big, likely the best we'll see until some significant rain comes our way. On Sunday a couple of friends and I took a big tour around the south bay, 9 out of 12 patches were fruiting. Allenii and Cyanescens grew strong despite the dry conditions. I spent far more time picking than photographing specimens today. Both dehydrators are absolutely stuffed. I'm sore as fuck, but it was a goooood day. Cheers!

On a side note,
I've had quite a few people asking for some advice here on The Shroomery about hunting in the Bay Area. So I figured I might as well share a bit of my technique here for anyone else who might be curious. This was my last response, and I feel as though it sums it up pretty well:

"My best advice would be to check on any local zones with urban landscaping. Focus on hardwood chips with a plant/shrub covering, anywhere with shade and moisture retention.  Psilocybes generally don't take on bark or mulch landscaping.  Your best bet will be public parks, shopping centers, office buildings, churches, schools, community centers, etc.  Most landscaping has irrigation, but it's hard to say whether or not the water is active.  Keep an eye out for consistently moist planters. Heavy rain will help trigger fruiting within patches, but we haven't had anything significant yet.  I'm hoping some real rain will come in December.  The bay area season is typically from Nov thru Jan. Above all, do your homework.  Know the key characteristics of your local actives, and know how to spot the deadly poisonous look-alikes (Galerina marginata and Pholiotina filaris).  Put in the time and you'll find em.  Best of luck!"

I think some people overthink it. And I think other people travel too far when they are likely in their own neighborhood.  The damn things are basically like dandelions at this point they are everywhere.
