A.k.a said: Jake do you think thicker casings kill pinning?
Like that pic has a much more solid case than we usually see and it looks like it pinned awesomely but only the edges. But then again sometimes I see real solid casings with huge pinsets so idk.
I want to assume the ones with big pinsets are real thin but totally covering the surface and tend to have a lot of verm.
Yes I think they def can, I always try to keep my case as thin as possible, if I put it in to thick my yield suffers greatly

Rate my LC
Both 0.4% LME, the bigger one was PC'd for 40 mins and the smaller one was PC'd for 20 mins.

diegosf said: Hey guys Im trying to cultivate my first pans.. Jamaica i've got some spores, make some transfers in agar, got a clean culture and make a LC. Inoculated the grains and after full colonization, spawned it to 40/30/30 Manure/Coir/Verm.. in little trays. In 2 days it was fully colonized.. so i pasteurize some verm/coir and use it as a casing layer.. After 1 day, the casing was totally colonized So i applied some more.. and now im waiting to fruit..
I also have inoculated a few cakes with manure in the recipe, MacMerdins style, and put it in the same place..
I have SGFC but no perlite, so i found some aquarium bubblers in my closet and put it in there, with a line of water in the bottom.. What do you think?
This is a good setup? It will fruit?
Hey guys.. its pinning, besides the myc colonizing the casing layer.. so happy
Guess i'll let it go on his way..
These things are fast! 2 days and growing..
Do they look healthy to you?

I started getting sediment all the time in LME LC when PC for 15 min. Didn't have it before. Rather sometimes, but not all attempts. Not much, but I guess it's the thing that should be avoid completely
What should I try?

Sediment is ok in LC actually I like a certain amount of it it gives something the mycelium to latch onto and chew on. My LC will start out dark yellow with a bit of sediment and after a couple days the mycelium latches onto the sediment and after about a week the jar is fully colonized and has latched onto all the sediment and the jar starts to clear up and after a couple weeks the jar is completely clear. No sediment no color at all

Man this jar went nuts when I opened it last week to spawn some.
All of a sudden there’s the fruiting veins and those big myc spots.

Hey everyone, the hpooPF tek for pans can I use straight up spores? Or should I first go to agar(I've already put some to agar using a altered Jake tek with pasty plates)

You could start from spores. I inoculate with agar wedge but most of the times it's with the inoculation plate or T1.

Dry weight it's about 4.5% of the wet weight. That gives you roughly 0.9g minus the caps u use for printing... that's almost a decent experience. Not a few good trips like triptrippy said.

Cambos dry super light but cyan was same as cubes for me.
I ran the Cambos first so I thought all pans dried that way, I was sooo stoked when I weighed my cyan grow and had twice as much as expected.
These aussies are super weird compared to the others I’ve done. I thought they’d prob gone bacterial since the surface didn’t seem to be very colonized but 16 hours after casing and the myc is all up in the peat.

Poured one of my LC's into a bunch of jars today. It's turned into a bit of a franken-tek, so who knows whether anything will happen. I blame manure pellets for making the whole thing weird.

I wasn't referring to cambo. I was talking about cyans. But to be fair there's a big difference between strains. Wild coast is huge compared to Texas or Cambo. But the small ones came in great numbers and the yeald is about the same ime.

Since my recent Pan Jam endeavours were fruitless and foamy...
...I started from scratch and changed to Pan Trops.
So i isolated from Agar. (Sorry, no Pics)
Prepared some some Rye Jars via LC
Spawned to pasteurized horse manure, verm and Straw in a mono. Applied a casing after 3 days.
Problem was: Since I was accustomed to the gluttonous behavior of pan jam myc the casing I applied was a tad too thick(maybe 0.3 cm less would have been better). So i was worried when there seemed to be no myc growth visible on the casing surface.
That stayed this way till day 6 when the first Pins appeared:
Phew. Finally some form of Success!
Since more Pins appeared, i stopped the spraying and continued the watering with a syringe. Took that pic today (Day 8):
Although now is everything fine and dandy, I'm still not sure about the way i should continue on, especially due to not having the space for a martha setup.
So what im doing now is testing out the following teks/containers:
Another pyrex tray in a SGFC (Day 3 after casing)
Small shoebox (Day 2, before casing):
Testing out a cheapskate martha like setup (air pump -> box with water + airstone -> small FC) with a pyrex tray ( Day 2, after casing)
And i also made another mono, cause it worked just fine(Day 2, before casing)
Im especially curious how they are doing in the shoebox, since this is the most comfortable fruiting tek i know (at least for cubes it is).
When I'm having some results, I'll write an update.
Finally a word of advice to all the noobs playing around with pans:
Fuck Pan Jams! Fruitless time consuming overlay prone genetics are just annoying and not really encouraging... Of course my opinion is highly subjective, but i wish somebody would have told me before hand too try another strain, and not these fucking foam factories (a scene from kajillionaire came to mind *g). Sure, one can be lucky and not having these type of problems...but i would stay away from them unless you want more of a challenge/lottery or/and have some more experience with pans.
All foam and no fruits make jack a dull boy!
