Millet NO soak?

I read about using millet without soaking or boiling, just by adding (an exact amount of) water with (and exact amount of) millet and sterilizing. Anyone here using this method successfully? If so can you tell me the ratio of millet vs water using grow bags holding about 3.5 lbs millet?

I personally do not like this tek (also called the ratio method). Perhaps with jars 1 pint or less it does work. 3.5lb bags never really do well. The grains absorb the moisture unevenly and the myc tends to not colonize the top 1". This also leaves it susceptible to contams. The absorbed moisture from a pre-soak in the grain allows the heat to penetrate more effectively to sterilize. What has worked for me is a 3 hour hot soak with white millet and a little longer with golden about 6 hours. Drip dry and load "wet". Just my personal experience. Good luck.

I only did jars and you kinda have to tinker with psi/pc time/hydration but for me I would do two units of seed to .8 units of water.
Basically a pint of seed and a little less than half a pint of water to a quart jar.

Can you use grocery store bulk millet? I found posts from 4-5 years ago saying both yes and no, but not much discussion about it.

Unhulled yes, pearled no
Edit: actually I was going to say ‘hulled’ no... is pearled and hulled the same thing?

I find whole millet best myself. Look at feed stores or bird stores. Mother Nature's brand is good. Pre-washed and dust free. You will have to start thinking in volume rather than weight for ratio method. Cups, pints, liters etc. vs lbs.

24 hour soak works just fine for millet. I hate oats, try wheat. Same prep as oats but with less drying and bullshit. Boil, drain, dry for half hour, load.

There’s no soak with no prep either. Just add grain and water and go.

Lol, you are correct. Posting while drunk, tl;dr due to whiskey. I'll come back when I've regained literacy The title was literally "millet NO soak"

I do my millet by just adding water. I have a link in my sig. It is for quart jars but I would think you could just scale it up as needed.

Millet is the GOAT for no prep grains.
I do "no" soak millet bags just like OP is asking about and it works great. Actually it is 12 hour soak but soak in the bags. You do not want to do no actual soak time because the bag will expand too much during the PC and tear if you don't let it expand beforehand.
I do 3.25lbs of millet and 1.75lb water. Shake the bag around a bit to mix the millet and water. Wait 12 hours (24 hours will sprout the millet if temps are warm) and then mix around again and PC for 3.5 hours.

I have been hardcore anti-no-prep for over a decade always giving people a hard time about it.
My main squeeze was always Milo with a meticulous soak and simmer and strain. But I have ran every common grain and most prep styles.
If you want to race me or do a comparison I'm down to clown. I just spawned my batch though so it will be a few weeks before I make more spawn.

I am using this millet. Doesn’t say if it’s hulled or not. Only says white millet. I have used rye in the past and would soak it for 24 H. But rye is many times the price of WBS.
Oats. How much does oats cost? I would have to get it online as I don’t think any stores near me carry it.
I will certainly give sandman420’s method a try as it’s closest to what I’m looking for.

I use cold water. Just 3.25 lbs of millet added to the bag on a scale. Then I pour straight from a gallon jug of water to an even 5lb. total weight (or as close as reasonable it's not critical)

What kind of bags do you use? Also, why do you PC for so long? Other no soak millet teks only PC for 90 min, is that too short of a time?

I'm using Unicorn 3T bags (large 0.2 micron bags)
I like to go long time for bags because they have more mass and my pc is very large so just to make sure everything gets nice and done.
