Mono tub holes
    #27048751 - 11/20/20 11:46 AM (7 days, 17 hours ago)

Regarding the holes in a mono tub I comprehend the ones on each end by the handles being open, the ones just above the substrate being filled with polyfill after complete colonization of the substrate to inhibit the air flow dynamics for humid air near the substrate surface for pinning but I don’t understand the bottom holes significance? Wont the plastic that prevents side pinning block all air flow?
Am I misunderstanding..., should there be holes on the flat bottom surface upon which the tub rests?

Here's some good examples of a Monotub for ya m8.

I have all holes filled with either polyfil or micropore tape.
You want the holes near the bottom of your monotub to help release CO2 as CO2 is heavier than air meaning it can only escape proper like through the holes near where it originates which is your myc.
I wouldn't put holes in the bottom of your monotub... or anywhere the substrate would sit as it would be useless.

Got it. Thank you. You have both a shotgun for cakes and a mono tub...., you have answered my question regarding holes though..., Ty.

That SGFC is a monotub/SGFC hybrid actually.

Yeah holes at the substrate level are usefull for C02 exchange. I usually cover my bottom holes with micropore, and stuff the top ones loosely with polyfill. If you also want to use polyfill on the subsrate level holes, make sure to pack it more tightly then the top holes.
I just dont like having all that polyfill touching my mushies thoug .

All the best!

I think i understand why you're confused. When you make an sgfc(thousands of little holes on all sides) it's designed to have a perlite bottom for cakes, so air will flow up through the perlite.

In a monotub, you're just using large side holes for your airflow since there's substrate/liner on the bottom. Bottom holes would be useless like you assumed.

I would follow the directions for the tub you need.
