Pink oysters
    #27046616 - 11/19/20 12:27 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

G’day everyone,

So I purchased a pink oyster grow kit and had it delivered and was surprised how quickly the pins etc popped up! I have a few photos here and was wondering basically what to do next! I’m sure some of the mushrooms are probably a little over done and I probably should have picked them already.

Thanks Heaps!

I don’t wanna hijack the thread but kinda relates to the subject... does anyone have a list of gourmet nonactives that grow exactly like actives (same procedures n all)?  I don’t see how I can word that question in a search field and find what I’m looking for.

Edit:  I mean cube actives

G’day everyone,

time to pick them, cook them, eat them. If you want to continue growing you can take a tissue sample onto agar. then if you get good growth, go to grains and then another sawdust bag, straw or other substrate (oysters arent picky).

A tissue sample does sound much different from a spore print.
How do I do that?
Also if I threw it into a humidifier chamber after harvesting would I get a second flush?
Thanks as always for advice 👌

you could get a second flush but the block looks a little dried out. perhaps you will gently dunk it to allow some moisture to absorb into it. in the future i would recommend not removing the bag completely, just cutting little slits for the mushrooms to fruit out of.

look into aseptic mushroom techniques. a tissue sample is taken from inside the stem usually. break a mushroom in half and using a sterile scalpel or knife cut a small piece of tissue away from the mushroom. when this small piece of tissue is placed onto sterile media, mycelium will soon begin growing out from it.

you can then use this mycelium to inoculate sterile grain jars and then bulk substrate like enriched sawdust blocks, straw or logs.

You can do this at home without much investment using a still air box, agar and a pressure cooker.
