How important is rehydrating the perlite and when and how should I go about it?

Every two week and I would say its pretty important. The perlite is maintaining the humidity in the chamber.

IME mushrooms do best when you set them up for success and then leave them the fuck alone.

For real, just dont totally neglect them. Gotta monitor them once in a while to make sure the substrate isnt drying out.

But yeah, less is more :sadyes:

IMO, I’d say once a month you rehydrate it.
OR when you don’t see condensation on the walls...
It’s important because that is what provides the humidity for the SGFC...
Take the cakes out, set them down somewhere clean (they’re totally colonized so they’re all good to be set down) and rinse that perlite. Some people like to do it with a bit H202 as well. I don’t recommend breaking that out unless  you actually see contamination.
Cheers!
