I purchased a liquid culture of cordyceps militaris about a month ago. I put it to agar and have passaged it a few times, but have noticed that the initially fuzzy white mycelium starts developing greyish-brown looking spores (is conidia the correct term here instead of spore?) as the culture ages.
From the bit of reading I've done, it sounds like it's normal for C. militaris to form conidia and change colour on agar, but the images I've seen all have it looking much more bright orange than what I'm seeing with my own cultures.
Here's an image of the initial LC plate and the two proceeding transfers next to a nice bright white reishi culture for comparison (excuse my misspelling of "militaris" on the plates):
Does this look normal? Or have I accidentally cultured some kind of contaminate?
