Pooling Water + Low RH%
    #27046979 - 11/19/20 09:37 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

hi-

I have a grow tent that I'm using to grow gourmets.

My setup includes: ultrasonic humidifier and portable oil heater
Temp: 74 F

Challenge:  I have water pooling at the bottom of my grow tent - enough that I need to mop it up with a rag each morning.  However, the RH% of the tent is in the 40-50%.  How do I get the RH% up without flooding the grow area?

I've searched other posts and came across a post that stated that humidifiers and foggers do separate things and having both might help.  I'm not sure I agree.  Aren't both devices pumping moisture into the air?  Wouldn't a humidifier and a fogger perform the same function in the grow tent?

Water pooling at the bottom and only measuring 50% RH in the tent might be a sign of a faulty sensor - if it's that wet in the tent, you might have shorted the sensor out (are you sure it's rated to sit in such wet climates)?

The other option is that the ultrasonic humidifier is malfunctioning and not misting the water small enough, but emitting droplets that are collecting at the bottom of the tent.

Ultrasonic humidifiers and ultrasonic foggers work essentially the same way. Foggers tend to use more than one disk and have a higher water capacity but everything else is the same to my knowledge.

Droplets can form on the surfaces of your tent if the temperature inside is different than the temperature outside the tent, the droplets can then run down the sides and puddle. A solution to this is using a space heater in the closet with your tent. Putting it in the closet helps avoid the added costs of heating a larger space, plus you won’t have to deal with the house being warmer than you like.

I think it’s either a temperature differential or your hygrometer is faulty/improperly calibrated. I’m leaning towards the hygrometer being the problem if it wasn’t calibrated prior to you setting it in the tent

Thank you for the replies.

The grow tent is in the middle of the living room and it's a big chug of a tent. It won't fit in a closet.

But the idea you presented is interesting. The tent is around 70-75F and the room is about 63-66F.

How exactly do you calibrate a hygrometer, what does that mean?
