My first was amazing. About 1/2 to 3/4 hit of blotter but I was 13 with a young, malleable mind and able to accept melting walls and breathing couches. I mention this part bc I think age has allot to do with how well some reacts to their first experience. The older we get, the more used to the reliability and permanence of reality we become and I think this makes us much less able to accept the many things that come along with a psychedelic experience. Well, bc 'acceptance' is such a big part of enjoying the overall trip which, i think, is really what you're on about with your question.
I tell people that there are three things you *have* to have sorted out and optimal for the best experience: Set, Setting and Company.
Set is your mindset. Are you depressed? Did anyone close to you recently pass away? Did you just get fired, evicted, dumped, etc? What's your overall opinion of yourself? Are you suicidal? More on this later bc it's a biggie, but I want to touch on the others 1st.
Setting is where you plan to be; that is, geographically. Are you in a safe environment? Are you going ziplining or going to work at the factory? Pick a safe environment where you're fairly certain you won't be required to do anything dangerous, business - related or "serious".
Company is who you're going to be with. Are the people around you going to pretend they're running out of oxygen and think it's funny when you start gasping for breath? Is anyone experienced? Most importantly, do you trust the people you're going to be around?
While I think all three are equally important I think the first comes with a caveat. The caveat is, as many have more so recently discovered, with psychedelics comes a therapeutic potential. We hear in the news and through word of mouth, first and second hand experiences of people treating a plethora of psychological issues with entheogens. Everything from PTSD, and deep seated childhood trauma to addictions and depressions and even neurological conditions. Personally, I love the fact that I'm alive long enough to see such wide acceptance of this possibility and even more so to see case studies and trials being done. This is an exciting time to say the least.
That being said, I would greatly caveat Set as such: If the other two [setting and company] are optimal (in literally EVERY sense of the word), I think set can be waived to some degree and with an exorbitant amount of prudence and judgement by not only the individual but also with the company. Such that the company has full disclosure of said issues, conditions (medical/physical/psychological, etc) and is willing to go forward into the experience with these *knowns*.
Anyway.. sorry that got so long winded. Just saw the post and it triggered the thought;.. so I thought I would share.

First mushroom trip= good, watched "the departed",smoked some kief, and ate homemade burgers
For LSD it was five liquid hits out of one of the more generous droppers (like the ones for tinctures. So I guess 1500ug. Was also awesome and I would do it again if I could

I was like 13 years old and bought an 8th of shrooms off a friend. It was overall a wonderful experience. In retrospect the shrooms were weak but still it was an amazing time and my first dip into the rest of my life.

My first trip was pretty terrible. My first attempt at tripping on 2g had no noticeable results so I upped to 4g a few weeks later. It was my first experience with psychedelics. The come up was amazing and i'll never forget it but the peak was just a total nightmare. Feeling like I was dying and not being able to let go, eventually going to the emergency room looking like a psycho.
Looking back I wonder why I didn't stop there it was my first ms grow so those first shrooms probably were just not very potent. I also hate being in hospitals now
