Hi, I'm new to this forum, I joined for a specific purpose, though I'm hoping to stick around. I've read the rules of the forums, and I don't think I'm breaking any rules with this post (at least I hope I'm not).
Anyway, I live in New Zealand and recently moved from Taranaki to Wellington. I've always been a pretty avid mushy user, and they were always been really easy to come by in Taranaki. However, since moving to Wellington, I've found that it's not as easy to stumble upon magics down here.
I know the basics of looking for psilocybes, know what a few different types look like (I don't know the names by looking at them, though) and that I should go reasonably early in the morning, a day or two after rain and preferably cold or frosty. Right? Well I've looked around up in some of the pine forests around town and havent found anything. I know the season has most definitely started, and I'm dying to get on a trip (have been since the end of last year's season)
So anyway, thats my situation :P
I realise that It's banned to request/post specific locations to pick mushrooms, but is it ok to ask them to be emailed to you? If so, I'd like to post my email adress so that anyone who knows a good patch in wellington might tell me about it.
If I've broken any of the forum rules, please lock/delete this topic.

In my experience, pine forests are good for finding cantharelles and perhaps some boleti, but not for psilocybes. If you're looking for liberty caps, you'll have to roam the grasslands (although this is not the season for them). If you're looking for cyans (do they occur in NZ? I don't know...), your best bet is in urban areas where there are gardens with mulch and whatnot. Perhaps MJ can give you some hints on where to find other species. However, I'm pretty sure you're not going to find anything active in pinewoods.
Hmm, I've found them in pine forests before, just not in wellington.
LoL, oh and when I say psilocybes, I just mean magic mushrooms... Like I said, I have no idea about the scientific names, just referring to the fact they have psilocybin in them.
I suppose it's pretty risky having little knowledge about identification, but I just recognize ones which I have taken before without ill effects... (and with good effects :P)
You will be finding Psilocybe Subagurinosa(sp?) in Wellington. These do grow in Pine forests aswell as kiwifruit orchards. Suburban parks with pine bark mulch gardens and forests should also have plentiful.
We don't get Psilocybe Cyanescens in NZ, but Panaleous Cyanescens grows in Taranaki and possibly Wellington.
