How do I know I'm getting proper FAE before its too late? (PF/SGFC)

Also, unclear as to how absolutely precisely the holes need to be placed. I'm worried I may have fucked up the FC by not being laser precise.
I've had one cake out of the 6 in the SGFC for like 5ish days, it got one little PE pin off the bat that never quite grew and its veil is already broken but that might be an abort?
I'm not great at diagnosing things yet.
I measured the best I could with a measuring tape and a marker, and then poked all the holes with a hot screwdriver that was the same size as our 1/4" drill bit. (Battery charger for the drill is missing)
I also have finer grade perlite than I meant to get, and need another inch or so anyway, but is there any way to tell how efficient my FAE is?
Will add pics of my setup in a bit so hopefully someone can tell me if ive fucked it all up and possibly offer a solution, but I have a mg of xanax in my nose and a lotta lotta dabs so I barely made it through writing this post.
Love you all greatly and as always I appreciate your help and support. 💜✌😊🤘💜

Your holes should be about level with your cakes (or substrate) so the CO2 can escape (because CO2 is heavier than air). You do not need to be laser precise. Good luck.

But there are holes all over every surface of this thing.
Maybe I dont understand what you're saying, but there's only like one or two rows of holes level with the cakes all the way around the box, so do the other holes exact locations not matter? Just generally 2 inches in a grid?
Because my grid is definitely not mathmatically correct lol.
I'll post pics tomorrow when I get up, I'm just super worried something's wrong with my babies and I really need these to grow or I wont be able to get a more ideal setup.

The lower holes will the the CO2 escape. The upper holes are supposed to let the fresh air in. Some people like to "fan" their tub while others just leave a lid cracked open. They do not need to be mathematically precise. Trust me, the fruit doesn't own a tape measure! ha Get a pic up so we can see. lastly, don't let desperation get to you. You are going to fail and fail and fail. I hope you don't, but realistically, we have all failed (and most of us numerous times) ha. It'll happen!

Please read the subject that the OP posted this under - this is NOT for a monotub. The OP should have holes on all 6 sides of a SGFC and the chamber should be elevated. The holes don't have to be exact, but they do need to be similar to the Tek in number/size/spacing.
I don't know of a quantifiable way to measure the FAE other than by just watching how fast the cakes dry out. Generally speaking more FAE is better as long as the moisture can be replaced from the mistings.
Any chance you can provide a picture?

Ok much more awake now. The pin showed is from the cake that colonized and was birthed a couple days before the rest. Been there for like 4 days and im pretty sure the veil has already broken and its either growing super slowly or not at all.
I've moved the FC from the little alcove it was in in the bathroom to the top of the pool table yesterday because I felt it was suffocating with walls so close on 3 sides. Btw 4 are PE and 2 are KSSS if that matters.

I see a few things that are a bit off... the holes are fine, they’re close enough. Put some more perlite in that thing, it’s a big container... Move the cakes apart, use all the space in that giant container... Don’t fan if you have been, it’s outdated. And the cakes actually look at tad wet too me, but that’s just in my amateur opinion. Ps... I’ll pass on a tip that’s been passed on to me, just spawn to bulk IMO. When you have that many cakes you can get such good flushes from shoeboxes, or you could do a mono tub with that amount of cakes... But for FAE, with all those holes I don’t think it’s gonna be an issue... Cheers!

Yeah I definitely know I need more perlite.
Unfortunately I put literally all my money into this project or I definitely would've already gotten a coir brick to spawn to bulk.
I live on my cousin's floor lol, and she's been saying she'll pick me up a bag of perlite for a week or 2 but I don't really wanna push it cuz I'm already bumming it up over here.
I may have to figure out a way to make this work without literally spending another dollar.
As for moisture, thats what i've been worrying about too. I must be blind because they never seem to "glisten" until they're soaking wet. I can't seem to figure out when they need misting.
This shit is giving me panic attacks on the daily because there's a lot riding on this thing working.
And I thought I was supposed to put them close together so they create their own microclimate or something along the lines of sharing eachother's warmth and evaporated moisture.
Dont remember who said that or how old the threads were but ithought that was the right move.

UPDATE: just went to move the cakes farther apart and it seems about 2 dozen baby pins have started on the 2 cakes that were birthed first.
One cake has a bunch of what appear to be possible albino pins??
Pics to come, but that can totally be a thing from a MS syringe right?

Heck yeah If you used MS, yup. And honestly, they could just look like Albino pins, but turn out totally different... Keep us updated!

Looks pretty decent. A SGFC made to spec with a few holes off center
Definitely get some more perlite. More perlite is always better in my experience.
Also, Id recommend upgrading to wide-mouth jars. They are wonderful. Highly recommended.

Thanks guys 🤘
Yeah I'm gonna twist my cousin or her BFs arm to get me a bag of perlite asap. About how many quarts will it take to get me another 2 inches?
Btw those pics probably look a slightly deceiving because there's a strip of electrical tape around the bottom(bug protection) that's blending in with the trashbags I'm covering the pool table with.
I have 3 inches exactly. How big of a bag do I need?
Also at what point should I consider beginning bottom watering if at all?

Hey OP! here's my SGFC
All I did was melt the holes, no measurement at all. Just make equal amounts of holes on each side. This one is modified so I can do bulk spawn and cakes.

I cover all the holes with micropore, which helps it retain fruiting conditions. The lid also has four holes in it to allow O2 to freely cycle through the whole tub.
in the gif above you can see the lid, and some really pretty Nepal cubensis.

Nice! I wondered about micropore as well but after checking here everyone seemed to say that it wouldnt allow enough fae?
Looks like they were obviously incorrect ✌😁🤘

So my cousin just walked in with what can only be described as a cartoonishly gigantic bag of perlite.
I told them to get as coarse of grade possible so as not to plug airholes because the stuff I'm using is WAY too fine.
But is this stuff too big? Should I use more or less than the standard 5 inches with regular sized chunks?
*edit* forgot to add the pics lol

*fixed the photo coding.
