Dehydrator is full...

So I’m up late harvesting a few tubs and I’ve completely ran out of space in my dehydrator. I’ve got two 20qt tubs that are ready to be harvested, but nowhere to dry the fruits for the approximately 6-12 hours it will take what’s in the dehydrator now to be finished. The caps are already fully stretched out and they’re dropping spores.
Im wondering if it’s ok to harvest now and let them sit up to 12 hours before going in the dehydrator? Obviously you wouldn’t want to let them sit several days because by then they’d probably have started decomposing in some capacity... so where is the cutoff in how long they could sit before entering the dehydrator?
I’m interested in building some large dehydrator like contraption in the near future. I’ve found several posts where people have done something similar. If there is any good teks or schematics for building a DIY dehydrator, please share with me below.
Thanks!

Throw em in a paper bag(s) in the fridge and they'll be fine. I keep my cardboard flats that quart jars come in for this purpose. Or lay them on newspaper and have a fan blow on them until the dehydrator is empty. It will partially dry them but not enough for storage, will cut your dehydrator runs down.
There's a few guides on building your own DIY fire hazard but check Fleabay, Kijiji, Craiglists, Grindr or whatever else you've got for a used dehydrator first. If you're going to keep cultivating perhaps look into buying a bigger one. Then if you keep cultivating a lot more get a bigger one than that. The DIY spirit is nice but working a few extra hours in a workweek to buy a second dehydrator at Wal-Mart will probably be a more efficient use of your time and save you headaches in the long run.
Best of luck.

Maybe just throw them in front of a fan inside a cardboard box? I never used a dehydrator.

Thanks for the input! I’ve currently got two of the old school style of dehydrator with the round stackable trays. There’s less than an inch between the trays with the most room on the top shelf between the lid. Now that I’m looking I see there are some other “oven” style dehydrators with removeable racks... those look nice.

I guarantee you could put 2-4x more fruits in your dehydrator. The racks don't even have to touch each other when you start.
