Interesting nutrition facts about mushrooms and grain

So I was curious about the calorie difference between a cup of grain and the mushrooms you can get out of it.
So I looked it up assuming an ounce per cup of grain (i know, I know)

For some reason I thought mushrooms would be more nutritious than grain, but I guess that's just because my body takes longer to access that energy.
Mushrooms have more potassium, less calories

Makes sense I guess cuz there’s gotta be loss converting the grain to mushrooms.
I’m kinda surprised an ounce of shrooms is only 64 calories.

Well this nutrition info is from myfitnesspal, which anyone can create items and add info to, so who knows if this is actually accurate anyway. I would also be very surprised to learn that there is 16g of protein in an ounce of any type of dried mushroom. There isn’t even 16g of protein in an ounce of chicken

Its not surprising at all to me... That nitrogen in chitin is pretty interesting.
it wouldn't be 1 oz of chicken wet, it would be 1 oz chicken dried

I don’t think you need to dry the chicken in order to compare an ounce of something that’s mostly protein to an ounce of something else that isn’t mostly protein. You don’t have to partially dehydrate watermelon in order to compare its nutritional info with something else that has less water content.
But, in that mindset anyways, a one oz package of jack links beef jerky only has 11g protein. I can’t see cubes having anywhere near as much protein as beef, let alone 50% more. Just saying I don’t think this nutritional info is reliable

wet protien is still mostly water bud, and jerky isn't just beef
Now if the USDA consideres 28g of dried beef to be about 16.52g of protein, thats good enough for me. I mean I am all for gov't conspiracies and the like, but I don't see what they have to gain by misrepresenting this figure.

Ok, fine, assume 28g of dried beef is 16g of protein. You actually think a mushroom, which all other varieties of are inherently low-protein, is going to have the same amount as meat, which is inherently high protein?
Nah, someone was messing around on myfitnesspal one day and typed in some random numbers

Okay, o didn't know myfitnesspal was crowdsourced. If anyone has a better source id love to see it,
That being said mushrooms do generally have a good amount of protein in em

They really don’t, though. This 7.5oz package of dried shiitake mushrooms has 3g of protein, or 0.4g per dry oz. Obviously I’d accept a little fluctuation between different species of mushrooms, but highly unlikely that cubes have 40x the protein of shiitakes.

You didn't find it suspicious that it said that dried cubes are made of 67% protein? Making it possibly one of the most protein densest foods out there
Another thing I found out tho the other day, popcorn is as nutritious as any other of the whole grains so I have no clue why I have been reading posts about popcorn having low nutritional value compared to other grains for all these years

To your defence there is actually a bacon chips sold here in Norway (you know that crispy potato chips like product) that contains a wopping 65% protein. Først time I read the nutes on the back I was 100% sure this was a type that they somehow got carbs and proteins mixed up with the percentages cause it looked that way since they also wrote around 20% carbs. But lo and behold thosenchips actually contain 65g of protein per 100grams and that just nuts lol

You're telling me chips have twice the protein per 100g as dried beef. I'm pretty sure you read your bacon chips wrong
30g of protein per 100 is dried meat territory

If they are made of bacon it would make sense

Highest I could find was 43 grams protein per 100g for dried bacon products

Dude I don't blame you in the slightest for doubting this or my recollections of it lol this still doesn't sit all that well with me but company that makes them just happens to be this old respectable very strong brand and they take lots of pride in their reputation almost like their products are considered a part of Norwegian culture you know that lame sentimental shit companies project onto foods sometimes, anyway they're seemingly/apparently not the type to blatantly lie and boast about it and regulations in this country are lvl Nazi so there's no chance they're getting away with false advertising. Anyway their website says It's bacon rind fried in rapeseed oil. So I guess fat + oil turns into protein when you fry it lol

If that text said said 2.5g protein and 63g carbs I wouldn't bat an eye for a thousand years, totally a must be a typo right?

Nope no decimal forgotten because those aren't potato chips. Those are pork rinds, literally deep-fried pork skin.
Baken-ets, one of our mass market North American pork rinds are 7g protein per 14g serving. 50% protein by weight.

Half-ass decent replacement for potato chips or bread crumbs when you're keto/paleo.
