Vermiculite Casing with mono Tub?

Hi all,
Just whipped up a new tub using Bod's unmodified tub TEK. 650 dry grams of coir with 7 full quarts of colonized oats (probably too full, but they broke up nicely).
My first grow had a lot of annoying side pins so I decided to incorporate a couple new strategies this time around using a vermiculite casing layer and a liner.(If you come across this thread, thanks for your help with my last grow Fahster and A.k.a).

I think I made a correctable mistake by throwing the verm layer on dry. I since gave it a good fine misting (about 4-6 pumps).
1) I'm thinking that worst case scenario, if the knowledgeable amongst you think that the verm layer is an unnecessary step, I can just mix it all in and check for field capacity. What do you all think?
2) This substrate seems on the thick side at almost 4" thick. Should I consider separating some of it into a shoebox or two?
3) What are your thoughts on my substrate proportions... I think I may have misunderstood this part of Bod's TEK? 7 quarts of grain-spawn seemed quite a bit on the heavy side in my very limited experience.
Due to the thickness of the substrate, and the proportion of spawn to coir, I'm wondering if it'll be difficult to maintain adequate hydration. Is there cause for concern?

Should be fine.. that’s not too thick.. most ppl use between 4-6 qts to that much coir and just use the bulk mix to cover the top of the sub (~1/4-1/2”) Instead of verm. a plain verm casing isn’t widely used anymore. Coir is really effective in knot/pin production

Thanks for your reply. I just put the tub together, do you think mixing in the verm casing and pasteurizing a bit of coir to sprinkle over the top might give me a chance for a better outcome?
