Is virtue signaling basically the opposite of cognitive dissonance?

Virtue signaling does indeed exist especially with families with kids who just want to put on a front and try to impress their neighbors and friends.

Buying a car you can't really afford, buying a big boat for weekend family outings, pretending to have compassion for other people, it's all a front. If there's anything the pandemic has taught me about people it is that it has brought out the selfish side of people. From the ridiculous panic buying of toilet paper, not wanting to follow simple guidelines like wearing a mask and not going to gatherings, people not wanting to stay home, etc. Most people are only thinking about themselves this year.

Even if I were a millionaire and liked kids, I wouldn't ever be caught dead bringing a child into this fake, vain, evil world.

Not everyone is vain and evil, and there have always been vain and evil people. In fact we have never had it so good. It's just because of the interconnectedness of things that it seems so much worse.

I have kids. I live in the countryside. There's no crime, people you don't know say hello in the street, kids are safe, I don't lock my house. But I chose this area and this lifestyle. I can't go live in an overpopulated area and complain that people are assholes. It's always been like that, always been a scrabble of sculduggery and selfishness to get on top of the pile.

Perspective.

You're on an internet forum heavily implying how much better you are than most of idiot humanity (vain?) full of anger/hostility (evil?) and making posts about how you personally love the lockdown because it means you don't have to go to work (selfish?)!

You don't want children, but rant on about it incessantly! Why does it bother you so much if you don't care?

If we're being honest here, there are more people than not that will attempt to over compensate with social cueing on ethical behavior, while also doing a handful of things that contradict that.

Basically, virtue signaling lol.

Also, one of my favorite observations about these forums is watching people get triggered by ideas, then turn into psychotherapists analyzing OP's relationship to the idea of parenting, kids, etc., lmao.

Can you think of one truly good person that is not also a deeply compassionate and empathic human?

Yeah, but as your views seem to align with the OPs (don’t wish to bring children into this awful world) are you sure you were not also triggered by someone or something you read yourself and retaliated using similar tactics to those you described?

Besides mate I’ve read your blog (very good by the way) which veers pretty close to psychoanalysis and even self-help itself!
