Help, Stalled in fruiting
    #27040101 - 11/15/20 08:26 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Hello, I am new here and also new to growing. This community has been an amazing learning experience for me and I am glad to be part of it. I am looking for some guidance as I believe I have stalled in the fruiting phase. My setup:
Standard Monotub Tek
In grow tent with auto heat, fan, humidifier and UV light 12/12

I did grain spawn for first month all seemed healthy
Moved to tub and let colonize for 10 days (did not use casing or foil)
- I notice a tiny bit of myc piss transitioning from colinization to fruit
At this point it seemed that I had a nice healthy knotting myc. Also the myc piss stopped and disappeared.
I started to introduce 12/12 light, FAE and humidifier about 7 days ago however I am not seeing any pins. Hopefully I am just overreacting and not being patient enough, just concerned. Any help would be much appreciated.

10-14 days is a typical time to see pins after fruiting, and up to 20 really isn’t cause for concern. 7 days is really a best case scenario, so just keep your conditions right and wait it out

Edit: Also, are those not 4 or 5 pins up in the upper left corner? Looks like a little cluster of a few and then one a couple inches to the right, but it’s kinda blurry so could maybe be pieces of grain or something

Edit 2:

Thanks for the reply and the reassurance. I will do my best to exercise patience. What appears to be clusters are pieces of grain that were not entirely submerged in the substrate. Hopefully it will be a good week next week, I will keep you posted

It seems there is still no activity as of today. My fear is that I have introduced to much heat during the colonization process (85f) and the substrate is drying out. Currently, my tubs humidity is artificially controlled with the humidifier. I feel compelled at this point to give my cake a good soak. Would there be any drawback to that approach?

85 degrees does seem like a lot...
that could’ve done some damage, but also I would give it a bit more time.
Can we see a pic now? Might give us a better idea to help...

I am maintaining temps now between 65-71F and humidity at 93RH introducing FAE every few hours. The myc seems a little less white as of this morning, thus my concern.

So today would be day 13 since you spawned to tub?  If that bed doesn't pin, I'm throwing my whole setup into the compost bin.

ok.. maybe not for real but that tub looks like it's about to blow the lid off.

I have always colonized my tubs at 84-86F. A lot of people say incubation isn’t necessary, but I’ve always done it and see no reason to stop doing it, so you definitely didn’t hurt your tub with the temperature.

But keep doing what you said you’re doing in your last post and you’ll probably see pins very soon

Spawned/Colonized about 23 days ago. Been fruiting conditions for 13 days. Your words are encouraging, thank you

Excellent, thank you. I am typically very good managing patience but this is stressful lol.

My first flush is on the way but mostly growing out from the edges. Assuming a field capacity issue. Once I harvest these should I expect a healthier second flush after a good cake soak?

I would suspect a humidity issue, which could be related to substrate moisture. They’re growing from the sides because there’s more moisture/higher humidity trapped between the substrate and the liner than there is on the surface. Try misting more for a better second flush.

You mentioned once that your mycelium looks less white... does it appear to be drying out and/or matting over while yellowing? Look rubbery?

Thank you for all your help on this grow so far. I very much appreciate it. I haven't misted as much because I have been relying on the humidifier to do the work but learning that was a mistake. Some of the mycelium is turning an off-white yellowish color but appears to be healthy to an untrained eye. It does not appear to be rubbery or dried out, in fact, I believe those areas had the most direct contact with water (the humidifier hose was dripping in those areas the first few days until I noticed and corrected).

Is it an ultrasonic humidifier? Do you have some kind of chamber set up around your tub to trap humidity inside?

Edit: sorry, I see now you said you’re growing in a tent. If you have the space, I’d consider pulling the substrate out of the tub (gently), flipping the tub upside down and putting the substrate on top, without the liner. You want to avoid side pins but once you have them you’re better off letting them breathe and get as healthy as possible rather than forcing them to cram their way up between the substrate and the tub walls

Yes, I am using a reptile/herp forger from amazon that was recommended in a few guides a I came across. I also have a sensor that controls the humidity at 95RH. I took out of the tent for a while to cool things down a bit (the led lamp was keeping the tent at 85f while running even with an aux fan and exhaust). I use the storage container lid to keep things contained for now. You recommend to take the sub out, remove the liner, flip the container upside down and set sub straight on the bottom (now top) of the container back in the tent?

Your pictures show you still have tape over your holes even though you claim you are fruiting the tub. You're starving the monotub of fresh air. Monotubs are not designed to be set inside of tents, if you had just let it be without any humidifiers and tents it would be fine on its own.

Monotubs are designed to maintain their own humidity by putting polyfill in those holes when you fruit the substrate. If they dry out, you mist them lightly but regularly until it's back to normal. I would suggest ditching the humidifier and the tent and doing as Greens says and bring the substrate out of the tub and letting it just chill in semi-open air.

If you take the substrate out (you understood correctly), definitely keep it inside the tent with the humidifier, don’t sit it in open air or it will dry out. You’re basically converting it into a greenhouse
