landed a remote lab job with big pharma 5

I was furloughed from my old job and like most just staring into space wondering what’s next then a recruiter contacted me for a remote lab position. The title is sr. lab analyst and I interviewed on zoom and got hired right away. This is with a major big pharma genetics department and everything is going to be remote so I don’t have to leave my house.
I’m just worried how this is going to work. They described it as a lab inside a lab. They primarily will be running PCR and gel electrophoresis. I guess our job is to pour over the data. My new boss said we will be completely trained so not to worry thing is they are paying me more than a fucking doctor for this job. I’ve never been in this bracket and to work from home holy shit. Even my parents don’t believe the pay but I signed the contracts already.
I’m guessing they got a lot of government money to blow. They are sending me all new computer equipment until I start next week. I just hope I didn’t get in over my head at least if I did I’m going to net some serious cash during training. The main guy had me above 24 others and I just hold a b.s in biochem and medical lab science. my resume is impressive as my first job was in stem cell research.
well cheers to covid i work remotely in a laboratory now lool

I also work remotely in a similar space. Data are data. You can review them remotely.
The biggest challenge with remote work is supervising. When you have to set the tone, take charge of morale and deal with staff issues, it can be difficult to do remotely.

Congrats man, sounds like a sweet gig. Does the job end when the government contract ends, or is it pretty permanent?
My brother is in his last year of a bachelor's in computer science, but has been able to get a few remote jobs paying really well since COVID hit even though he didn't have the full degree just yet. He just got hired a few days ago working for a company in AI for like 90K and it's all remote and he still has a semester to dust off. Definitely some good gigs hanging out there.

Yes a B.S in biochem and medical lab science. 4 years previous work experience in lab. I’ll keep updated on how this goes as I don't think this has ever been done before. I’m going to work as hard as possible. my shift is kind of crazy sun-tues 7pm-7am.

That's about what I figured. My BS will be in biochem too. 1 year left. unfortunately will all of the covid stuff, it's been tough to get lab experience the past year.

I wouldn't worry I had ZERO experience going into my first job. It was all educational so when I'd get asked if I had worked in a lab I'd say well yeah I did in an educational setting. Don't say No you haven't because those 6 hour biochem labs are harder then any job you will do in real life trust me.

Good to know. Where did you look for a job like this? I've checked indeed and the basics but it's sort of sparse.

Pharma is hiring like crazy right now, I get recruiters messaging me on linked-in prob 30 times a day. Are you a full employee or a contractor? if it's contract work is it W-2 based or are you obligated to pay both halves of your employment tax? Congrats regardless, I work in data heavy lab setting where 50% of my job is crunching reams of data and 50% is bench work. Good luck, pay attention to the training, PCR is a weird one though as that is usually read by the instrument. It most be something computers suck at, so they hire and train people to pour over the data by hand.

tell us all the big-pharma trade secrets, and how they are keeping us sick for profit and changing the narrative of knowledge through sketchy industry funded studies that give half truths where the conclusion isnt even what the study showed if you read the whole thing
