Do I need psilocybin to be more focused, directed, calm of mind?
    #27038432 - 11/14/20 08:56 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

About 3 years ago I started down this route to experience psychedelic mushrooms. I had experienced them once many many years ago, probably longer ago than most of you have been alive. It was a limited experience, a one time thing, a friend having offered me a few. Enjoyable though it was I never sought it out since then even though it was always in the back of my mind that I would probably try it again. Fast forward a few decades and here I am writing to you today.

I'm not a heavy user. One, I don't have anyone to trip with so I've been cautious and guarded in my approach. One mushroom first. Two the next time, three, four, then five is where I broke into my first psychedelic experience with flashes of visuals and distorted imagery out of the corner of my eye. Then it was onto about 2.5 - 3 grams where I experienced persistent open-eyed visuals and undulating visual distortions. The fun of the experience was later tempered with physical discomfort to the extent that I stopped doing them for almost a year.

One thing I noticed during those experimental usages coming to know my benefactor, psilocybin, is that I became more focused. It was nothing profound. It was a little here, a little there. I found it easy to diet. I've always been over weight and in need of changing my diet. I was able to maintain a diet and lost 40lbs. I started feeling better about myself, bought a new wardrobe that was uncharacteristic for myself, more sophisticated and refined. I found it easier to study longer without seeking distraction. Whereas I've always been a person who lives in disarray I began cleaning up being more organized.

During the year not taking mushrooms I've settled back into my old habits, inability to focus and need for comfort food.

A couple of weeks ago I started consuming mushrooms again. And again I'm beginning to feel that old clarity I had last year after months of experimentation.

Does anyone else feel this way?

So check this out my man, I am getting ready to turn 50 and I have never before used shrooms. I have however, suffered from PTSD and anxiety for a long time. I used acid less than a dozen times in my twenties and it was fun but not inciteful or profound. I have been closely watching some of the new studies supporting psychedelics as a treatment for these issues I contend with. Having said that, my initial assertion was to get involved with a local Ketamine clinic but when I found out they require 600.00 per treatment, insurance doesn't cover it and the wanted to start me of with 6 treatments over a two week period it was over before it ever started. Then I really started to want to try mushrooms. There are literally NO available mushrooms in my area so I decided to try and grow some. It was a resounding success! the problem is now. I am too nervous to try them. I am comforted by your story and I find myself inching closer to the moment when the benefits outweigh the risks. Even though I know my mind is strong (a little warped perhaps) I am apprehensive none the less. I have not tried nor can I comment on the usefulness of this therapy. But my studies have brought me to the conclusion that many find exactly what they are looking for when they take this medicine. If I were you, I would continue to experiment with the dose size and frequency best for you and if the results you describe are consistent I would not look for validation only repeatability. Continue on my friend and I hope that the path you take is the path you seek. Let me also say at this point either my poor habits (including eating) are going to kill me or I will gather the strength to dive into this and die trying. But either way I am going to die. The question is will I be satisfied with this life and what I have done or not done when I do.

Hey, if the mushroom works for you, don't stop, continue taking it.

I was scared at first simply because I didn't want to get the wrong mushroom. I read Paul Stamet's book Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World: An Identification Guide.  Just make sure you compare the rest of the characteristics as well. I read a lot and compared what I had with what I was seeing here on the Shroomery and other places. Then I tried just one. Felt ok. Next week I did two and so forth and so on. But I was 99% certain of what I had before I consumed them.

If you're scared because of effect, one or two mushrooms aren't going to do much. There's a guide around here somewhere and also in Paul's book mentioned above that tells you what to expect at certain dosage levels. From personal experience sub 1 gram is going to make you feel a little relaxed and mellow. 1 to 1.5 grams colors are going to brighten, music is going to be deeper. I felt a general feeling of well being and mellowness. There will be some closed eye visuals. 1.5 to 2 grams perceptually things get interesting. Visuals begin to appear open-eyed with some perceptual distortions. 2 - 3 grams things get more intense. Over 3 grams and visual distortions are on going. In a mirror I watched my face have several small localized distortions kind of like waves.

Speaking of waves, once you're tripping, it comes in waves with periods of intensity followed by periods of lesser intensity. My first "trip" I couldn't stop flipping between laughing and crying. It was weird, but in a good way. I had a pad and pen handy and found it helpful to hold on to the ride I was experiencing by writing about it while I was having it. Planning is important. You want to have a pad and pen. You want to have something comforting or interesting ready to go for your TV. You want to have all of your music lined up for the evening in a playlist.

I did notice when I first started taking mushrooms that my initial reaction to 2 - 3 mushrooms was an elevated heart rate and increased breathing. I didn't like it. As I've continued taking mushrooms that seems to have subsided. IDK if I had to acclimate to the mushrooms or if I was experiencing a panic attack. I didn't feel panicked or apprehensive taking them so IDK what that was about. The feelings did subside within about 20 minutes though. I just concentrated on making sure I was breathing properly.

Also, I've found the same feeling with taking larger dosages all at once versus slowly dosing. Slowing dosing to something like +3 grams over the course of a couple of hours will extend your trip from a typical 6 hours to 8 - 9 hours. I also experienced serious gastrointestinal discomfort taking that much. Some people have said it was the way I did it, the slow dosing versus a quick large dose.

I don’t have much discomfort between sub 1g and 2g. If I just want to feel mellow I take no more than 1 gram. You don't have to trip to have a good time and experience benefits. One or two small mushrooms should not give you any discomfort, but your mileage may vary. Start slow with small dosages, a tiny mushroom.

I hope you can enjoy yourself.

Enkidu, I most certainly did!!! Took a mild 2.5g ride last night in tea tek. The others that were there did lemon tek. Their experience was much better than mine although mine was not a disappointment by any means. I drank the tea at around 5pm. By 5:45 I was feeling rubbery and went outside to poke a campfire and listen to my pre-made trip mix. The fire was dancing on my eyelids while my eyes were closed and taking some interesting shapes and seem to keep time with the rhythm of the music I was playing. At one point I opened my eyes only to see that everything in my vision was nothing more than a mural painted on a sheet that had become loose from its frame. The sheet began to fall only to "snap" back into place. Those were really the only visual anomalies I encountered. However, for the rest of the evening I felt as though my body was a bit drunk, I was wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket of content and peace. I have never felt peace like that. My mind was quiet and I had no care in the world. I went on to sleep soundly through the night. My slumber did conclude with a weird dream (which are common for me)but today I feel refreshed and excited to try again. I am no longer "scared" of the medicine. I will be going back and continuing on my path. I figured I will treat dosing like cooking a steak, I will continue cooking until I reach my desired level of "doneness"

Nice man, that sounds great :super:

Glad to hear it

Fires while tripping are great. I ate some mushrooms last night, very insightful and beneficial experience
