You rub the swab on the agar. There's no tek for that.

Ok. About how many plates can I get out of (1) swab? Can I use the swab over and over? Do I just swab a spot in the center of the dish? Or all over?

1. A few at least. 2. Until it's spent. 3. Your dishes do what you want

Here's what I do with swabs:
It depends on how fresh the swab is. If its really fresh, I like to swab at least three plates and as much as ten if I only have one swab, and I really want to be successful.
Streaking is good because it is really nice to have discreet colonies to choose from, rather than a dogpile. But with older swabs, sometimes the streak plates don't show growth.
After streaking the plates with the swab, I like to use some sterile tools to remove the tip and stick it into the agar to ensure germination. With older swabs this is many times the only plate that with show growth.
Some people pull the cotton off so they can inoculate more than one plate with it, so not all their eggs are in one basket. Honestly, I just use the one intact swab tip. Mainly because I haven't really thought of a way I can take the cotton off in a sterile way, I'm sure it can be done, you'll just need to practice with a few swabs (no spores) to figure it out.

I used a sterilized scissor to cut a small piece of it. That's the only time I used a swab and I had just one and wanted to have a backup. And it worked.

Ive used this "TEK" with great success. I have had some stubborn spores not germinate straight from print or swabs.
Its simple. Sterilize some distilled water about 1ml in a small mason jar or jam jar or in a syringe. "hydrate" the tip with syringe or swirl it in the sterilized container with water. Then streak it in a zig-zag pattern across several plates.

Zig zag it across the plate bruh. Use it till you don't see growth coming from the streak.
Most swabs I couldn't inoculate enough plates to make it unusable. The only one that was stubborn was APE but I think* that is confirmed as being common among other users.
