Hoogs seemed finicky and I will return to my print at some point. I easily get impatient and at first I thought my Melmac were kinda slow. Now I think the spawn was just dirty lol

You case at spawn types with coir/verm, how are you doing it?
Just mix the spawn and sub and give it a layer 1/2" or so of spawn free sub overtop?

So I've been casing my fucking monotubs since the get go and never realizing it then when I stopped and left exposed grains and my yield seemed to drop off it's because this entire time I was casing?
I need a moment here.
I need to figure out a way to seal the shitty lids on my monotubs so an errant fungus gnat doesn't get into them. Won't feel safe until I go a month without seeing one.

Gnawing at the mind. The gnats must have gotten to you real good man. Won't happen to me, I'm just swatting imaginary flies at the slightest provocation

Can I use a spoon to break up fully colonized jars before spawning instead of breaking them up against a tire? Is there more risk of contam doing this?
Getting real tired of banging all these jars every time I need to spawn and I want to fill my jars a little more.

Sure but if you gotta constantly dig spawn out with spoons it may mean your spawn is dirty.
Usually clean spawn falls apart really easily.

I just use my foot. Clean spawn breaks apart easy.

I have read that dirty/bacterial spawn can be more dense/harder to break up and I'm still working on getting perfectly clean spawn but even my last jars that seemed relatively clean and put out like 2000g wet per tub took a couple wacks to a tire to break up.
Do you normally not even have to bang it against anything? Just shake?

Thought you meant you used your foot to get the spawn out for a second and was gonna joke if you flame sterilized your foot lol. Regardless, I want to avoid shaking 30+ jars every week every time I spawn if possible but my spawn probably isn't 100% clean either so I'll suck it up for now.

Considered bags recently but I don't have a flowhood and I spent like 2 months getting all these damn jars and lids lol. I probably won't be G2Ging at all anymore though so I guess I could pour LI to bags in a SAB. No more broken wrist sounds realll nice.

Check the link in my sig to see how I managed bags in an SAB without much hassle. And using a spoon to break apart spawn honestly seems way more of a hassle than using feet.

I’ve read not to put monotubs directly on the floor because contams. But if I seperate my tub with a piece of plywood, would that be okay? I have very limited space and would like to stack my closet high as shit.

I wouldn't worry about it. If your tubs contam early it'll be because your spawn is shitty.

I feel like one can over-cook coir, lessening its water uptake.
Normally I: 1 brick of coir, boiling water, into a bucket.... numerous buckets in tower... sleeping bag over the tower over-night.
Recently I've decided to: 1 brick of coir, 180f water into bucket, sleeping bag on tower... (stays above 140f for an hour) then sleeping bag removed after the hour is up.
The coir can take more water when it doesn't sit very hot, all night long.
Tested many dozen of times, with consistent, huge blocks of coir.
Does this seem reasonable to you all?
