Jars always dry out on top due to arid environment

So I live in an extremely dry desert and most of the time my jars stall on the top.
I know when you guys are all going to say - need to have higher moisture content when I make the jars.
So that's exactly what I've done several times in a row. I have increasingly made it wetter and wetter in my grain jars. I would first make it so that only a couple of rye seeds would stick to my hand. Then more and more each subsequent time, until like 20 stick to my hand.
They still keep drying out on the top.
So my idea: I was thinking of getting a humidifier and putting it in the room with the jars. Has anyone ever had to do this?
Thank you.

IMO if your jars are drying out then your GE holes are too large or not properly filtered. They are acting as FAE holes instead of GE holes. What do your jar lids look like?

Yes agreeed. I'm in a high elevation arid mountain environment and any grain jars with polyfil filters have to be stuffed with poly as tight as possible or they will dry out. If you're using tape, add another layer.

Yeah I’m in the desert too with single digit rh on a regular basis. I had the same problem so I added more filter to the lids I already made and made my new ones much smaller and they’re fine now.

I mean I have < quarter inch holes and I can't stuff them any tighter.

Actually to be honest I made the holes a little bit smaller than a quarter of an inch.

Ah see I used tyvek so I just added more layers.
I also started making a bunch of tiny holes instead of one big one so grains couldn’t get through and under the filter during shaking.

Oh you are saying have a sheet of tyvek screwed underneath my lid?
That's a pretty great idea.

So in your guys's opinion, if I scrape off the top grains which didn't fully colonize can I still use the jars to make a tub?

Yeah they’re actually colonized but too dry to see.
Filthy did a test where he took the uncolonized looking grain off the top of a bunch of bags and spawned a tub with them and it ran just like normal.
