Volume of a sphere: V = (4/3)πr3.

Observable universe = 93 billion light years across or a radius of 46.5 billion light years.

V = 4/3 *3.14 * (46,500,000,000 ^ 3) = 420,946,830,000,000 cubic light years

Converted to cubic miles = 2,474,535,756,013,913,950,650,000,000

and then converted to cubic feet = 364,246,595,436,019,817,039,909,068,800,000,000,000

My question is: With the mind-numbing enormity of space, why can I not have 3 more fucking cubic feet in my god-damned closet?

Plato figured out the answer to this ages ago. I can see your education is lacking.

In Book X of The Republic, Plato tells of Socrates's metaphor of the three beds: one bed exists as an idea made by God (the Platonic ideal); one is made by the carpenter, in imitation of God's idea; one is made by the artist in imitation of the carpenter's.

Just as with beds (which are around 6 feet long), closets are about three feet either way.

I might suggest tents as a viable alternative to closets, as it seems they have not been given any particular size specification.

The thing about beds is the more bed room you have, the less bedroom you have.

The 93 billion light year figure does not have a specific interest in your ideal closet space and is not encouraged to make that a reality.

Someone not content in a large sharehouse is what this sounds like.

Housemates can be a gamble, and privacy can become a delicacy.

Personally I have an abundance of privacy.
Living on my own, pants not required.

It is nice, but lonely at times, you'll see yourself in every light in such situations.

*Stares at thread title*

:bongload: :bongload: :bongload:

Space, being a vacuum, is by very definition the ABSENCE of things; it's not a "thing" itself—for this would invalidate its very purpose - which is, to serve as the CONTEXT for physical distinction, precisely because it is, itself, NOT physical.

As soon as it becomes “objectively existent”, then it's no longer the distinction between things, but a thing itself, which therefore leaves the distinction between objects in space, physically and empirically, undefined.

In other words: if space is "a thing"...then what is the space between space and the things which are said to exist in it?

Is there actually not enough space in the closet, OP, or is our perspective limited by our quantum anchoring to 3D perception OF such...?!

I need to take 5g and sit in my claustrophobic (closetrophobic?) closet to contemplate such - and only emerge when I have answers.

Space is made to understand the meaning of objects.. space is always the distance between objects.. because without objects we are in free fall!

I feel like I understand what you're getting at; could you clarify the first part a bit, by what you mean here by "Space is made to understand the meaning of objects"?

Not looking to troll/argue you, I want to expand and discuss!

Thank you in advance! :sunny:

Space is defined as distance.. distance needs a marker to be calculated.

So movimg in space only makes sense when there are markers.

The question is really as simple as this..

Is space empty? Or full?
