Re: ID Request - Is this Gymnopilus Spectabilis? [Re: SandwichMan]

My one attempt with 150g was maybe level 1 or closer to threshold. Nearly half the mass came from one big cap. Hearing that other poster say 15g could have a big range piqued my interest, hence my questions about bluing and size.

I just found a 125g cluster of pins. Even the largest fruits have intact veils. What's interesting to me is that the wisdom online has been that the pins are much more potent than the really large (8cm+ diameter cap) fruits. So check this little cluster out:

And I could just be mis-classifying g. luteus

These look like Luteus to me for sure.

The size and staining say Luteus. Luteus is more potent than the Spectabilis from what I have read.

Sounds like you need 120g+ of Spectabilis and just like 10g of Luteus.

Honestly, this is what information I have harvested from reading what's available about the subject.

I may have it totally wrong. I am no expert.

When it comes to this I have to learn for myself. I'm on the hunt for Luteus currently. That way I can say for sure what's what from my own personal experiences.

As of now. I have eaten Ovoids and Spectabilis from foraging. I feel comfortable with both types. I'd like to find enough Luteus to make some tea

Here was my 15g in question, just these 4 little guys:

So perhaps there is something to the idea that younger ones are more potent? (Combined with my own sensitivity to them, ofc).

Thanks for the feedback. I'm happy whether these are luteus or subspectabilis. I've made them into an extract that I froze. I'll post a trip report when I get to them.

And let me know if you find anything more. Given our (i'm just a little west of you) recent weather, things should be popping. I checked a spot right at dusk and saw some pins that I'll harvest tomorrow morning. Things are happening!

Thanks! This is good to know. I just spied some fruits like those, good to think they might be worth the effort!
