Looking good so far amigo. Personally I would like to see a better 'even' colonization but that doesn't mean that your present grow won't be a rocking grow. Tweeking our grow methods to make them better is what keeps people like me growing shroomies -there is always stuff to learn. Anywho, all is looking good and best wishes .

Definitely were some things I could have done better... needed to mix my spawn and substrate better. It's looking great today though. I'll keep posting pics throughout the process.

Is it in fruiting conditions yet? I'm curious if you personally did "fruiting conditions" right after you spawn. That's my plan personally... Again, looking good and I can't wait for updates!

Not yet. I'm giving it about 10 days before introducing fruiting conditions. Next Thursday will be 10 days.

Don't listen to this guy. 90% of the TCs here stand behind fruiting conditions as soon as you spawn to bulk.

Pretty sure the need to wait until 100% colonization/consolidating is relegated to BRF cakes if I'm not mistaken. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Anyhow, at the rate it's going, 10 days should be plenty of time. I'll keep posting pics throughout the process ๐๐๐

Noicee is this in a 6qt shoe box? how much spawn did you use?
was it grain or BRF?
what was your substrate to spawn ratio?
what temp are you keeping it at?

I'm using a 15qt sterlite tub. For substrate, I'm using coco CVG. I used whole brown rice for the grain (basically just followed PGTs broke boi tek). Started out with 8 half qt ball jars but suffered 3 contams so ended up spawning 5 jars. I mixed roughly about a 1/1 ratio with spawn and sub then added about an 1/8 inch or so casing layer. Been keeping temps at about 70-72ยฐ but it gets a bit cold in my house so need to find a better spot for them lol.

Going to jump in on this thread!
Just started my first shoebox tek as well on 11/15. Using https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26009662 as my tek guideline. Thank you for all the great info ShaperDreaming!
I have a left over SGFC so mind as well throw my shoeboxes in there.

These are two shoeboxes with (4) 1/2 Pint BRF jars each. CVG substrate 1:2. Added casing layer as well.
Now I also have a third shoebox with (1) 1/2 Pint BRF jar & (1) full pint BRF jar. The full pint jar had some sort of contamination right at the top near the vermiculite layer. Kept my eye on it and it never traveled down thru the whole cake. So I took that jar outside, birthed it & cut off the very top of the cake. Keeping that shoebox away from the others just in case. Little experiment for sure.
Good luck to us both!

Any expert feedback out there for how things look to be progressing? I'm sure if something were amiss, a TC or seasoned vet would have chimed in...I think everything looks great myself but this is my first tub so my opinion doesn't really mean shit ๐คฃ

This pic doesn't do it justice...sooo many pins forming....I did what's called "forced evaporation" about 5 hours ago. I placed a mini fan on the bin, pointed it directly at the sub and let the tiny droplets evap for about 5 min to induce pinning since evap is the main pinning trigger. I rehydrated the sub right after with a fine mister to achieve all those fine little droplets on the myc..think I'm gonna have a massive harvest and flush/es. ๐ค๐

Iโve grown tons of PE, and while I always use a casing layer so it could be clouding what I actually see, I will say that I donโt see anything here that looks like a PE blob forming

Here's my 7 day check in. Looks like mine is going much slower than yours. Not surprised as these BRF cakes I used took just about 2 months to colonize. Maybe due to the colder temperatures.
