I’ve searched for a mini bat, like rubber or silicone. A tire knocker won’t work.

I just stack two silicone pot holders on counter. Tap tap tap. Works great.

Am I the only one that doesn’t break the spawn up by shaking it?
I’ve always just stuck a finger or spoon handle in and swirled it around to break up the top and then turned the jar upside down and jiggled it til everything fell out.

I just tilt it like 25 degrees and smack the bottom a bunch of times.
Sometimes when I’m spawning the last third of the seeds are a big chunk and then I do have to smack the jar a little bit. I guess since I’m not usually spawning more than a few jars at a time it’s not a big deal, if I were doing like 30 quarts breaking them up on something would be the way to go now that I think about it.

Make a fist.
The muscle that tenses up on the bottom of your fist from wrist to pinky on the side of your palm. Hammer smack the jars with that. Works like the dickens and you get it for free.
If it hurts then I dunno, get meatier hands.

I've been wondering... I break my one gallon bags of wheat berries up by tossing them about on a table, but if I see a clump, I break the clump up with my fingers... is it possible that in the middle of that clump is uncolonized grains and could be a source of contams? if the clump is a bit starchy?
Always worried about that. Maybe I shouldn't break those.

Dude same. Not because it's rough on the hands but it's about possibly breaking a jar and slitting your wrist or some shit.
I will say though, I use my hands except for really difficult edible spawn like reishi and the only jar I've ever had break on me was one being smacked on a rolled up yoga mat.
It literally exploded after 3 whacks. I tried on my hand for like 15 whacks and nothing. 3 whacks on a yoga mat meant total destruction though
I got lucky is what I'm sayin

That's what happened to the jar in my sig I dunked in paint then cased. Smacked it and it shattered on my hand. Minor cuts.
Couldn't imagine driving a long shard of jar through my hand and trying to explain that one to the doctor pulling it out. Tell him I hate pickles enough to feel the need to punch em.
On the topic of tools of the trade for doing things like Foomans hot soak for grains. I need a stock pot since I usually use my 23qt presto sans gasket. Are the thin wall Walmart stock pots any good or do they lose heat too quickly because they're made of tinfoil? Worth it to buy something heavier from a restaraunt supply or waste of money?
I also want to revisit bags but not sure which sealer to get. I was pre-sealing with my wide AF vacuum bag sealer but I think that has been one of my issues.

I've busted jars using duct tape rolls and the padded rug over the wooden floor. Never shattered one with my bare hand, but I have a great freep for what the jars can handle now lol. Ought to wear thick gloves , but the hammer fist method allows 2 directions of recoil ass opposed to the floor or tire smack.
For bags the ONLY good choice is the super fancy ones ppl talk about. I have both a small and thick blue bullshit unit.

This is the sealer you want: AIE-305HIM 12" Handheld Heat - Impulse Bag Sealer w/ 5mm Seal & Holding Magnet
I have a large pot with a basket which I line with metal screen for easy grain draining, but any container would do, a 5gal bucket, a pot, a pc. They use the pot for boiling crabs, I don't know the exact name.

I own a sealer and only use it to pre-seal my bottom layer of bags. And I don't even do this all the time, depends if I wanna stuff the AA full or not. Sometimes I just raise my trivet a bit and don't bother pre-sealing anything.
For sealing bags after inoculation I ziptie everything, I find it faster and easier to do with my limited space in front of my flow hood

Twist, fold, zip-tie
I've never run into contamination issues with this method either, it seals the bags just fine

That's exactly what I want. This was the cheaper option for the moment. Won't need it now though because I'm ditching heat prep and using 24 hour soak millet instead. Bags were a better choice in the long run.

If you guys are feeling adventurous, I am having a lot of success with presealing bags of wheat, with boiling water and dry grains. I flip the bag upside down after most of the water is taken up (three hours in a cooler) Then PC. I get a small amount of bursted kernels from water that hasn't quite been taken up. The bags look beautiful after I mix them up. Nocced with very thick LI... Just had 25 bags get to 100% in 5 days... some in 4. No humidity in the bags until the last day, and only a bit then. Some of the best grain prep to date for me. no simmering, no drying.
