When should I remove the lids on these shoeboxes?? (PICS)
    #27035088 - 11/12/20 11:37 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

What's up shroomery. I am finally nearing the end of my first bulk spawn run. I mixed up 5 shoe box tubs each with 2QT oat spawn and 2QT coir. I am fruiting in a 4x4 grow tent with a 5 disc ultrasonic mist maker. I am regulating humidity with a controller that activates the mist maker when humidity gets down to 96% it turns off at 99% and slowly creeps up to 99.7 and my analog humidity gauge looks to be what reads 110% humidity or so.

When should I remove the lids on my shoeboxes to increase FAE?

Since the tent is almost constantly engulfed with very humid fog should I still mist the surface to try and improve pinning?

remove the lids soon as your 100% colinized, a lot do it as soon as the spawn. you have to read your surface if you have fine water droplets your good if no fine water droplets then mist. also all the fancy gauges really do not tell you the truth you have to know different surface conditions. Learning surface conditions takes time and grows under your belt.

Thank you for your response. It's interesting to see the divide in opinions on when to crack the lid of shoeboxes nowadays. I guess I'm going to keep them on this time around and possibly change it next time to compare the results.

Also the gauges are monitoring the growing conditions of the tent itself to maintain proper humidity since I will be removing the lids completely for fruiting. I am aware they do not provide any information of the surface conditions in and of itself other than the fact that the fruits (if formed) will be given proper humidity. I was curious if the misting is still nessecery to help trigger pinning since most of the time the surface will be covered with a nice fog. Or if the evaporation of the super fine droplets on the surface is still required

could you also fruit with another shoe box upside down on-top of the one with substrate ? would there need to be holes?

tiny water droplets does not matter what the Rh is it's all about the tiny water droplets. that is why automation is discouraged a lot because there is no set schedule to mist. if you don't get good droplets, evaporation, or fae it can affect yield. .

Okay great, your input is much appreciated. I received an ultra-fine continuous spray misting bottle today I will be using to mist the surface when needed.

Thanks again 👍

So I have just been told that they will fruit just fine with lids snapped on the entire time from colonization through fruiting, if they get a little taller unsnap lid with it still on and let the mushrooms push the lid up as they grow.
